Objective: Both previous and recent literature showed long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) were crucial participants in multiple myeloma (MM) evolution. However, the dynamic regulation and mechanism of lncRNAs in MM progression was not fully understood. This study will explore the expression and effects of prostate cancer-associated ncRNA transcript 1 (PCAT-1) in MM. Materials and Methods:The expression level of PCAT-1 was examined using quantitative real-time PCR in patients with newly diagnosed MM and cell ...

Global nitrogen deposition has profound impact on the terrestrial ecosystem including the semiarid temperate grassland, causing vegetation community shifts and soil acidification. Little is known regarding the effect of nitrogen (N) deposition on the belowground microbial communities. This study aimed to examine the response of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and archaea (AOA) to added N in semiarid temperate grassland. We studied the changes of AOB and AOA by using molecular techniques targeting ...

Agricultural food production is at the base of food and fodder, with fertilization having fundamentally and continuously increased crop yield over the last decades. The performance of crops is intimately tied to their microbiome as they together form holobionts. The importance of the microbiome for plant performance is, however, notoriously ignored in agricultural systems as fertilization disconnects the dependency of plants for often plant-beneficial microbial processes. Moreover, we lack a holistic ...

Oxidative stress microenvironment caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation seriously hinders wound healing in diabetes, which brings great burden to global health. Various wound dressings on the market focus on delivering active substances to promote wound healing in diabetes. However, the complex pathological microenvironment of diabetic wounds often leads to the inactivation of delivery factors, which often leads to treatment failure, and thus, emerging therapeutic approaches are urgently ...

Understanding the future distribution of antibiotic resistance in natural soil ecosystems is important to forecast their impacts on ecosystem and human health under projected climate change scenarios. Therefore, it is critical and timely to decipher the links between climate warming and antibiotic resistance, two of Earth’s most imminent problems. Here, we explored the role of five-year simulated climate warming (+ 4 °C) on the diversity and proportions of soil antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) across ...

Soil-borne fungal pathogens pose a major threat to global agricultural production and food security. Pathogen-suppressive bacteria and plant beneficial protists are important components of soil microbiomes and essential to plant health and performance, but it remains largely unknown regarding how agricultural management practices influence the relative importance of protists and bacteria in plant disease suppression. Here, we characterized soil microbiomes (including fungi, protists, and bacteria) ...

The recent discovery of comammox Nitrospira , a complete ammonia oxidizer, capable of completing the nitrification on their own has presented tremendous challenges to our understanding of the nitrification process. There are two divergent clades of comammox Nitrospira , Clade A and B. However, their population abundance, community structure and role in ammonia and nitrite oxidation are poorly understood. We conducted a 94-day microcosm study using a grazed dairy pasture soil amended with urea fertilizers, ...

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) regulates cell mitosis, proliferation, and apoptosis. Trastuzumab is a HER2-targeted monoclonal antibody (mAB), which can prolong the overall survival rate of patients with HER2 overexpression in later periods of gastric cancer and breast cancer. Although anti-HER2 monoclonal antibody has a curative effect, adjuvant chemotherapy is still necessary to upgrade the curative effect maximumly. Antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) is a kind of therapeutic drug that ...

Janus kinases (JAKs) are the non-receptor tyrosine kinases covering JAK1, JAK2, JAK3, and TYK2 which regulate signal transductions of hematopoietic cytokines and growth factors to play essential roles in cell growth, survival, and development. Dysregulated JAK activity leading to a constitutively activated signal transducers and activators of transcription (STAT) is strongly associated with immune-related diseases and cancers. Targeting JAK to interfere the signaling of JAK/STAT pathway has achieved ...

The objectives of this study were to investigate the abundance and community composition of comammox Nitrospira under: (i) pasture-based dairy farms from different regions, and (ii) different land uses from the same region and soil type. The results clearly showed that comammox Nitrospira were most abundant (3.0 × 106 copies) under the west coast dairy farm conditions, where they were also significantly more abundant than canonical ammonia oxidisers. This was also true in the Canterbury dairy farm. The ...

In agricultural systems these processes determine soil health through bacterial roles in residue decomposition, nutrient cycling and their associations with other organisms. In this study, we investigated the abundance and composition of native soil bacterial communities under different long-term fertilization practices using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). ...

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a potent greenhouse gas and, in grazed grassland systems where animals graze outdoor pastures, most of the N2O is emitted from animal urine nitrogen (N) deposited during grazing. Recently, ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) were found to be present in large numbers in soils as well in the ocean, suggesting a potentially important role for AOA, in addition to ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), in the nitrogen cycle. The relationship between N2O emissions and AOB and AOA populations ...

Abstract Nitrate (NO 3 − ) can contribute to surface water eutrophication and is deemed harmful to human health if present at high concentrations in the drinking water. In grazed grassland, most of the NO 3 − ‐N leaching occurs from animal urine‐N returns. The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a nitrification inhibitor, dicyandiamide (DCD), in decreasing NO 3 − leaching in three different soils from different regions of New Zealand under two different rainfall conditions (1260 mm ...

Incorporation of rice straw to soil is a common agricultural practice in rice cultivation. In anaerobic paddy soil, the complete mineralization of organic matter to CH4 and CO2 is accomplished by the sequential reduction of nitrate, ferric iron, sulfate, and methanogenesis. In order to estimate the temporal changes of sulfate-reducing prokaryotes (SRP) as decomposers of organic matters, the effects of rice straw amendment on the dynamics of sulfate reduction and SRP were investigated by combining ...

The effectiveness of group sandtray therapy was examined using a pretest-posttest control group design with young adolescent girls (n = 37) identified as having low self-esteem. A split-plot analysis of variance (SPANOVA) revealed statistically significant differences between participants in the treatment and control groups in self-esteem on five of the six subscales of the Self-Perception Profile for Children. The implications of the findings are discussed.

To better understand growth regulation in the protozoan parasite Entamoeba histolytica, ameba genes homologous to the ras oncogene and rap (Krev-1) anti-oncogene were cloned. Two putative ameba ras genes (Ehrasl and Ehras2) were identified, which contain 205 and 203 amino acid (aa) open reading frames (ORFs), respectively. The Ehras1 ORF shows an 91% positional identity with that of Ehras2, a 55% identity with Dictyostelium discoideum (Dd) ras, and a 47% identity with human (HS) ras. Two ameba rap genes ( ...

Sex peptide, a secreted component of the male accessory glands, has been shown to induce behavioral and physiological changes in mated Drosophila. We transformed flies with a hybrid gene containing an hsp70 promoter fused to a cDNA encoding sex peptide. Heat-induced ectopic expression of the peptide in transgenic virgin females altered their reproductive behavior, in the presence of courting males, to that observed in mated females. This demonstrates that the peptide is functional as expected. Time ...
