The long-horned caddisfly genus Triplectides Kolenati, 1859 is the most species-rich within Triplectidinae, comprising about 90 species. Eight species have been recorded so far in Brazil, mainly distributed in the Southeast Region, and only one species has been recorded from the North Region. In this paper a new species of Triplectides is described and illustrated, Triplectides nessimiani Desidério & Pes sp. nov., based on adult males from Serra do Aracá, Amazonas, Brazil. We also provide the first ...

Natural Language Interfaces allow human-computer interaction through the translation of human intention into devices’ control commands, analyzing the user’s speech or gestures. This novel interaction mode arises from advancements of artificial intelligence, expert systems, speech recognition, semantic web, dialog systems, and natural language processing, bringing the concept of Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA). There is currently a vast literature on this subject. However, in the best of our ...

Macrostemum is the second largest genus of Macronematinae with about 104 described species distributed in the Neotropical (18), Afrotropical (20), Australasian (7), Palearctic (2), Nearctic (3) and Oriental (54) regions. Despite its great diversity, knowledge about its immature stages is scarce: worldwide, only 7 species (6.7%) have larvae and/or pupae described. From the Neotropics, only one species, Macrostemum ulmeri (Banks, 1913), has described larvae and pupae. The objectives of this study are to describe ...

The worldwide caddisfly family Calamoceratidae comprises about 175 extant species in eight genera (Holzenthal et al. 2007). Among these, two are exclusively recorded from the Neotropics: Banyallarga Navás with 18 described species (Prather 2004) and Phylloicus Müller with 57 described species (Prather 2003, Dumas & Nessimian 2010, Santos & Nessimian 2010, Quinteiro et al. 2011), both genera recently reviewed by Prather (2003, 2004).

Abstract Herein, the effect of the insertion of a thin dielectric HfO 2 :Al 2 O 3 (HAO) layer at different positions in the Pt/0.5Ba(Zr 0.2 Ti 0.8 )O 3 –0.5(Ba 0.7 Ca 0.3 )TiO 3 (BCZT)/Au structure on the energy storage performance of the capacitors is investigated. A high storage performance is achieved through the insertion of a HAO layer between BCZT and Au layers. The insertion of the dielectric layer causes a depolarization field which results in a high linearity hysteresis loop with low energy dissipation. ...

Abstract Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) improve survival and reduce organ failure in cecal ligation and puncture-induced sepsis; however, expanded EPCs may represent an even better approach for vascular repair. To date, no study has compared the effects of non-expanded EPCs (EPC-NEXP) with those of expanded EPCs (EPC-EXP) and mesenchymal stromal cells of human (MSC-HUMAN) and mouse (MSC-MICE) origin in experimental sepsis. One day after cecal ligation and puncture sepsis induction, BALB/c mice were ...

Euterpe precatoria (Açaí-do-Amazonas) produces fruits of which the fresh pulp is consumed. It is almost exclusively collected by extractivist farmers, because no selected genotypes are available for the establishment of plantations. For the domestication and breeding of the species, mating system studies are needed for strategy formulation. This study evaluated the mating system of a natural population of E. precatoria. Thirteen progenies were genotyped with 13 microsatellite loci by capillary electrophoresis ...

Background Pruritus and discomfort are often present in patients with xerosis and atopic dermatitis. Several studies suggest an important role of diet in skin pathophysiology. Objective This study evaluated the effect of dietary fatty acids in the skin physiology via an itch-related animal model with and without supplementation with fish oil (FO), a source of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), especially omega 3 (n-3). Methods Male Wistar rats were divided into two groups—non-supplemented (control) ...

Haloperidol is the most widely used antipsychotic drug in the treatment of psychiatric disorders. Despite its satisfactory therapeutic effect, its chronic use is related to severe motor side effects. Here, we investigate the incidence of motor side effects of haloperidol-loaded nanocapsules when compared to free haloperidol and the relation with oxidative stress (OS) development. Abstract Dendritic cells (DCs) are essential orchestrators of immune responses and represent potential targets for immunomodulation in autoimmune diseases. Human amniotic fluid secretome is abundant in immunoregulatory factors, with extracellular vesicles (EVs) being a significant component. However, the impact of these EVs on dendritic cells subsets remain unexplored. In this study, we investigated the interaction between highly purified dendritic cell subsets and EVs derived from amniotic fluid ...

Amphetamine (AMPH) abuse is a serious public health problem due to the high addictive potential of this drug, whose use is related to severe brain neurotoxicity and memory impairments. So far, therapies for psychostimulant addiction have had limited efficacy. Addiction is a devastating worldwide disorder that requires effective and innovative therapies. Physical exercise could be useful in addiction treatment because it shares a common neural circuit with addictive drugs. Based on this, molecular adaptations consequent to time of exercise in opioid exposed animals were evaluated. Rats were designed as sedentary (SED) or exercised (EXE). This last group was separated to perform three different periods of swimming: short-term (S-EXE), medium-term (M-EXE) and ...

Ibrutinib, a Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitor (BTKi), has improved the outcomes of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), but primary resistance or relapse are issues of increasing significance. While the predominant mechanism of action of BTKi is the B-cell receptor (BCR) blockade, many off-target effects are unknown. We investigated potential interactions between BCR pathway and NOTCH1 activity in ibrutinib-treated CLL to identify new mechanisms of therapy resistance and markers to monitor disease response. ...

In NOTCH1-mutated CLL, we detected subclonal mutations in 57% CD34+/CD38- HSCs. NOTCH1 mutation was present in 66% CD34+/CD38+ progenitor cells displaying an increased mutational burden compared to HSCs. Flow cytometric analysis revealed significantly higher NOTCH1 activation in CD34+/CD38- and CD34+/CD38+ cells from CLL patients, regardless NOTCH1 mutation ...
