이 논문의 목적은 '싶다'에 선행하는 성분을 토대로 '싶다' 구문을 크게 연결어미 결합형, 의존명사 결합형, 종결어미 결합형으로 나누고 이 중에서 특히 종결어미 결합형을 중심으로 의존명사 결합형과 대비적으로 고찰하여 그 특징을 밝히는 것이다.BR 먼저 통사적 특징을 기반으로 의존명사 결합형과 종결어미 결합형의 '싶다'는 연결어미 결합형과는 달리 보조용언 구문을 이루지 않는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 다음으로 종결어미 결합형을 중심으로 후행 성분이나 어미 결합과 같은 형태, 통사적 특징을 기반으로 '의미'에 대해 고찰해 보았다. 그 결과 '싶다'의 의미는 기존의 논문에서 주로 제시되었던 '추측'이라기보다는 화자가 외현되며 화자가 주어에 감정 이입된 구문도 가능한 양태 용언의 양태 의미인 '판단'으로 볼 수 있었다.
