This study investigates the degradation kinetics of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in contaminated soil using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and the Fenton process (H2O2/Fe2+). The effect of oxidant concentration and the Fenton molar ratio on PAH decomposition efficiency is examined. Results reveal that increasing H2O2 concentration above 25 mmol/samples leads to a slight increase in the rate constants for both first- and second-order reactions. The Fenton process demonstrates higher efficiency ...

Change detection (CD) is among the most important applications in remote sensing that allows identifying the changes that occurred in a given geographical area across different times. Even though CD systems have seen a lot of progress in RS, their output is either a binary map highlighting the changing area or a semantic change map that indicates the type of change for each pixel. The change maps are often difficult to interpret by end-users and they omit important information such are relationships ...

Artemisia campestris L. is commonly used in folk medicine due to its antioxidant, antidiabetic, nutritional, and culinary properties. Our study assessed the total phenolics contents, antioxidant, and pharmacological activities of various organic extracts prepared from the aerial parts of Artemisia campestris, and its mineral elements and chemical profile were analyzed. ICP-OES was used to analyze the mineral profile and the LC-MS/MS analysis was used to characterize the phytochemical profiling. ...

Abstract The European Union-funded Advanced Superconducting Motor Experimental Demonstrator (ASuMED) project started in May 2017 with the purpose of demonstrating the benefits of a new, fully superconducting motor for reaching the targets established by the Flightpath 2050 plan. The project aims at a motor power density of 20kW kg −1 using a high-temperature superconducting (HTS) stator. The rotor will use HTS stacks operating like permanent magnets. A highly efficient cryostat for the motor combined ...

Cubic α-NaYF4 nanometer-sized crystals doped with Eu3+, Tb3+, Yb3+-Eu3+ or Yb3+-Tb3+ were synthesized by an original coprecipitation route. The obtained nanoparticles exhibited primary particles showing cubic shape with sizes ranging between 35 and 65 nm. The singly- or co-doped nanophosphors exhibited strong red (Eu3+) or green (Tb3+) fluorescence upon ultraviolet (UV) or near infrared (NIR) excitation, which resulted respectively from down- or up-conversion processes occurring in their structure. ...

Stacks of high-temperature superconducting tapes may offer a technically affordable solution for the application of superconducting materials as trapped-flux magnets in the rotor of synchronous electrical machines. Nevertheless, several concerns must be first addressed, among others, the optimal procedure to induce the current vortexes previously to operation (magnetization), the survivability of these vortexes in the electromagnetic environment present in an electrical machine and the accuracy of ...

Recently, TiO2–Montmorillonite-based composites have attracted a great deal of attention as efficient photocatalysts for the degradation/reduction of organic contaminants and heavy metals in waters and wastewaters. It can be claimed that the most popular benefits of using TiO2–Montmorillonite photocatalysts are an enhancement in the photocatalytic removal of contaminants due to their high adsorption capacity, high photocatalytic activity of nanoscaled TiO2 deposited on Montmorillonite surface and ...

Stacks of high temperature superconducting tape have proved to trap in laboratory conditions levels of magnetic flux density one order of magnitude above actual state-of-the-art permanent magnets.Their simple manufacturing, high mechanical properties and intrinsic resistance to sudden quench greatly facilitate their utilization in industrial applications, amongst them, as source of magnetic flux density in the rotor of electrical machines. For this to happen, the currents induced in the superconducting ...

The Cretaceous marine transgression proceeded through successive steps from the Albian to the Turonian (dated with ammonites). The onlapping wedge begins with coastal transgressive–regressive short-term sequences on massive, probably fluvial sandstones to be correlated with the very thick continental Lower Cretaceous succession found in the Puerto Cansado well in the Tarfaya sub-basin to the north. A second step, of probable Cenomanian age, reached the Palaeozoic basement. A third, more pronounced ...

In this paper, an energy flow management algorithm for a grid-connected-photovoltaic system with battery storage devoted to supply a home is presented. This algorithm favours the fulfilment of the home energy demand by the energy produced by the photovoltaic generator or stored in the batteries than that got from the grid. This algorithm manages the flow of energy in the house through the combination of four switches. It was applied to the case of a home installed in a coastal region of Bou-Ismaïl ( ...

The main objective of this work was the extraction of Cr(III) from TiO2 surface deposited after Cr(VI) reduction by TiO2 solar photocatalysis. The results show that the reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) by TiO2 under natural sunlight is total after 2 h using tartaric acid (A.T) as a hole scavenger under the following conditions: [Cr(VI)]: 20 ppm, [TiO2]: 2 g/L, [A.T]: 60 ppm and pH: 2.2. The produced Cr(III) is divided between deposited onto TiO2 surface (39.75%) and in the solution (60.25%). The Cr(III) ...
