Debasis Mukhopadhyay,

Ensuite, ...

The effects that nanometer-sized matrices have on the properties of molecules encapsulated within the nanomatrix are not fully understood. In this work, dye-doped silica nanoparticles were employed as a model for studying the effects of a nanomatrix on the fluorescence quantum yield of encapsulated dye molecules. Two types of dye molecules were selected based on their different responses to the surrounding media. Several factors that affect fluorescence quantum yields were investigated, including ...

Abstract There is limited validated data regarding the relationship between preoperative expectations and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in patients undergoing knee surgery. The purpose of this study was to (1) assess the preoperative expectations of patients undergoing knee surgery and (2) determine the relationship between preoperative patient demographics, PROs, and preoperative patient expectations. We hypothesized that younger patients with worse function and worse general health status would ...

We examined the repetitive stress relaxation behavior of extruded AA7075 subjected to different heat-treatments (solid-solutionized (SS), under-aged (UA), peak-aged (PA)). Compared to SS and UA, the PA showed the highest stress drop (Δσs), plastic strain change (Δεp) and re-yielding (Δσr), in conjunction with the largest reduction in mobile dislocation density right after stress relaxation. As stress relaxation cycles repeated, the stress drop decreased due to lower activities of mobile dislocations. During ...

Abstract Introduction Immigrants comprise a considerable proportion of those diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the United States. Nativity or birthplace affects incidence and risk factors for HCC, but little is known about its influence on survival after diagnosis. Methods We identified 51 533 adults with HCC with available birthplace in the California Cancer Registry between 1988 and 2017. HCC cases were categorized as foreign born or US born and stratified by mutually exclusive race ...

Loss of function mutations in the EGLN1 gene are a cause of erythrocytosis. EGLN1 encodes for prolyl hydroxylase domain protein 2 (PHD2). PHD2 hydroxylates and downregulates hypoxia-inducible factor-2α (HIF-2α), a transcription factor that regulates erythropoiesis. While the large majority of erythrocytosis-associated EGLN1 mutations occur within its catalytic domain, rare mutations reside in its zinc finger. This zinc finger binds a Pro-Xaa-Leu-Glu motif in p23, an HSP90 cochaperone that facilitates ...

Abstract Over 40 years of conventional economic analysis has not reached consensus on the effect of foreign aid on recipient country growth. We provide new insight into this relationship by using a network approach to characterize the topological properties of the Organization for Economic Co‐operation and Development (OECD) foreign aid network. Viewing the OECD foreign aid community as an interdependent and complex system, we characterize not only the amount of aid but also the position of both ...
