Robert Fink,

Abstract A theoretical consideration of teleology in African American popular music, focusing on the late-1960s output of Motown Records. The question of goal direction and musical value in popular music is traced back to the theoretical dispute between Leonard Meyer and Charles Keil, who stand in for the two poles of an outmoded binarism: a “classical” music defined by control of teleology and delayed gratification, and a “popular” music defined by a liberating feeling of groove in an endless present. ...

Mary Hunter,

Abstract Performance discourse in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries (i.e., writing about interpretative performance in treatises, reviews, dictionaries, articles, and philosophical works) is distinct from that in both earlier and later periods. Although a full early Romantic paradigm of interpretative performance, as articulated in Hegel's Aesthetics, came about piecemeal and was instantiated in different ways in different kinds of sources, the texts examined in this essay communicate ...

Petras Bahadur,

The view of human nature within Islam can be derived from the Qur'an and the Hadiths. The Qur'an states that God created everything in six days (7:54; 57:4), and after informing the angels about the creation of human beings and their superiority over them (15:28-29), he formed them from dirt (22:5; 23:12-16).God keeps a supply of souls in heaven and takes them from there 1 (Merklin 2012:3) to place in each human being, choosing the right one for each person (Sahih Muslims 1214).Therefore, it is God who ...
