Toxoplasmosis is one of the common worldwide parasitic zoonosis due to Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii). Toxoplasmosis during pregnancy can result in fetal and neonatal death or various congenital defects. The aim of this study was to assess the seroprevalence and risk factors of T. gondii infection in pregnant women following antenatal care (ANC) services at Bobo Dioulasso. A cross-sectional study was conducted enrolling a sample of 316 pregnant women attending ANC at centers for maternal and child ...

We report 5 cases of penetrating chest wounds caused by weapons made from swordfish swords, involving breakage of the sword that later appeared as a thoracic foreign body. The patients had been assaulted 2 days to 17 years earlier. Three of them had a chronic infected wound, one had a penetrating thoracic wound with hemopneumothorax, and one had a foreign body. Computed tomography showed a foreign body in the lung in 4 cases, with aortic penetration in one. The foreign body was removed via thoracotomy ...

Ageratum conyzoïdes is a plant known for its therapeutic virtues. Its leaves are used by traditional healers to treat several pathologies. Phytochemical screening and quantitative analysis revealed the richness of this plant thanks to its multiple secondary metabolites. The aqueous, ethanolic and hexanic extracts were used for phytochemical screening. Thus, these extracts showed overall the presence of tannins, flavonoids, coumarins, free quinones, anthraquinones, alkaloids, sterols-triterpenes, ...

Due to acidic solutions aggressiveness, corrosion inhibitors use is considered to be one the most practical methods to delay metals dissolution in the said solutions. In this study benzimidazolyl derivative namely 2-cyanochalcones 2-(5-nitro-1,3-dihydrobenzimidazol-2-ylidene)-3-oxo-3-(2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl) propanenitrile which was synthesized was then applied as a corrosion inhibitor for copper in 1 M HNO3 solution. The inhibition action of this molecule was evaluated by gravimetric and density ...

In pursuit the development of novel potent and selective antibacterial agents, we synthesized twelve (12) N-alkyl 2-benzylthiomethyl-1H-benzimidazole derivatives and evaluated their antibacterial activities. Their antibacterial profile was determined with minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) and minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) against a small set of two (2) strains Escherichia coli (Gram negative) and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram positive). These compounds are produced by the condensation ...

Small-scale reservoirs play a central role in socio-economic development of Burkina Faso. In the absence of a best environmental management plan, these reservoirs can be potential factors of water pollution and ecological deterioration. In the present study, we investigated ecological status of sediments from the Soubeira reservoir, using concentrations of a series of heavy metals. Concentrations of the metals ranked as follows: Fe> Mn> Cr> Zn> Cu> Pb> As ~ Co> Hg ~Mo> Cd. Based ...

Investment in severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) sequencing in Africa over the past year has led to a major increase in the number of sequences that have been generated and used to track the pandemic on the continent, a number that now exceeds 100,000 genomes. Our results show an increase in the number of African countries that are able to sequence domestically and highlight that local sequencing enables faster turnaround times and more-regular routine surveillance.
