Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is steadily gaining acceptance across the manufacturing industry. Techniques for manufacturing components with complex geometries layer by layer have proven to be very effective in accelerating product development and hence reducing time to market. To build components by SLM from a nickel based super-alloy requires an understanding of process parameters and how they influence the microstructure, the degree of porosity and the properties. In this work, it was found that ...

Muscovy, Pekin and Mule duck are different in their body weight. To make a valid comparison in the lipid metabolism between these three genotypes, overfeeding was carried out by providing the animals with amounts of food in proportion to their body weight. Under these conditions, Muscovy ducks developed a strong liver steatosis, whereas it was not very pronounced in the Mule ducks and even less in the Pekin ducks. On the contrary, Pekin ducks showed a much marked extrahepatic fattening. At the beginning ...

PU.1, a transcription factor of the ETS family, plays a pivotal role in normal hematopoiesis, and particularly in myeloid differentiation. Altered PU.1 function is possibly implicated in leukemogenesis, as PU.1 gene mutations were identified in some patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and as several oncogenic products (AML1-ETO, promyelocytic leukemia-retinoic acid receptor alpha, FMS-like receptor tyrosine kinase 3 internal tandem duplication) are associated with PU.1 downregulation. To demonstrate ...

The glucokinase (GK) enzyme ( EC 2.7.1.1.) is essential for the use of dietary glucose because it is the first enzyme to phosphorylate glucose in excess in different key tissues such as the pancreas and liver. The objective of the present review is not to fully describe the biochemical characteristics and the genetics of this enzyme but to detail its nutritional regulation in different vertebrates from fish to human. Indeed, the present review will describe the existence of the GK enzyme in different ...

Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is a major complication of human pregnancy, frequently resulting from placental vascular diseases and prenatal malnutrition, and is associated with adverse neurocognitive outcomes throughout life. However, the mechanisms linking poor fetal growth and neurocognitive impairment are unclear. Here, we aimed to correlate changes in gene expression induced by FGR in rats and abnormal cerebral white matter maturation, brain microstructure, and cortical connectivity in vivo. ...

This paper reports on a six-year collaborative effort that culminated in a complete formalization of a proof of the Feit-Thompson Odd Order Theorem in the Coq proof assistant. The formalized proof is constructive, and relies on nothing but the axioms and rules of the foundational framework implemented by Coq. To support the formalization, we developed a comprehensive set of reusable libraries of formalized mathematics, including results in finite group theory, linear algebra, Galois theory, and ...

Abstract Introduction: Transcription factor GATA-1 is essential for erythroid and megakaryocytic maturation. A role of GATA-1 in cell cycle control is suggested by the fact that GATA-1 mutations are associated with hematopoietic precursor proliferation and leukemogenesis and that defective GATA-1 expression is observed in in vitro cultures of erythroid myelodysplastic precursors. In order to study more in detail a potential role of GATA-1 dysregulation in myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), we constructed ...

To define nomograms of serum cortisol values before 24 hours of postnatal life for extremely preterm infants and determine whether baseline cortisol values affect the benefit/risk ratio of prophylactic hydrocortisone to improve survival without bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD).We performed a predefined secondary analysis of the multicenter randomized controlled PREMILOC trial that included inborn infants delivered before 28 weeks of gestation.

Abstract PU.1 is one of the best-studied transcription factors governing hematopoiesis and has been shown to regulate positively differentiation of B-lymphocytes and granulocytes. PU.1 is also expressed in early erythroid progenitors and its interaction with GATA-1 was described to directly inhibit erythroid differentiation, since GATA-1 is the key regulator of erythropoiesis. In addition, the binding of GATA-1 to PU.1 was found to repress PU.1 dependent myeloid gene expression. In order to study ...

The European Space Agency's Planck satellite, launched on 14 May 2009, is the third-generation space experiment in the field of cosmic microwave background (CMB) research. It will image the anisotropies of the CMB over the whole sky, with unprecedented sensitivity ( ~ 2 × 10 -6 ) and angular resolution (~5 arcmin). Planck will provide a major source of information relevant to many fundamental cosmological problems and will test current theories of the early evolution of the Universe and the origin of structure. ...
