'Despite technological advances, humans remain the weakest link in Internet security' [1], this weakness is typically characterised in one of two domains. First, systems may not enable humans to interface securely, or the security mechanisms themselves are unusable or difficult to use effectively. Second, there may be something fundamental about the behaviour of some people which leads them to become vulnerable. This paper examines the links between perceptions of risk associated with online tasks ...

Abstract The psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis can extend through treatment, well into cancer survivorship and can be influenced by a range of psychosocial resources. At different stages in this trajectory, optimism is known to affect well‐being directly. This study focusing upon the potential to flourish after cancer, investigates the relationship between optimism and positive affect during cancer survivorship together with four possible mediators: social support, fighting spirit, internal ...

This paper focuses on accessing the experiences of three boys who are on the autism spectrum to identify what using a voice output communication aid (VOCA), within a classroom setting, means to them. The methods used to identify the boys' perspectives are described and evaluated. Establishing these through direct methods of engagement proved problematic but working with parents and school staff as ‘expert guides’ provided a rich insight into what using a VOCA appeared to mean to the boys. The findings ...

In situ measurement techniques suitable for determination of the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) in thin, spin-cast polymer films in both the in-plane and through-plane directions are presented. An examination of the thermal expansion behavior of cyclotene thin films has been performed. In particular, the effect of film thickness on the in-plane and through-plane CTE and in-plane Young's modulus of spin-coated cyclotene films was examined. It is shown that the mechanical response of in situ ...

Simulation is a popular technology within health and social care. Despite its increased popularity in health and social care, there is little consensus on how simulation educators evaluate its quality. A recent initiative by the International Nursing Association for Simulated Clinical Learning has attempted to identify standards for simulation in health care. This article explores Standard II, Professional Integrity of Participants, offering a broader notion of the term professional integrity. This ...

Low bone mineral density (BMD) disproportionately affects people with sickle cell disease (SCD). Growth faltering is common in SCD, but most BMD studies in pediatric SCD cohorts fail to adjust for short stature. We examined low BMD prevalence in 6- to 18-year-olds enrolled in the Sickle Cell Clinical Research and Intervention Program (SCCRIP), an ongoing multicenter life span SCD cohort study initiated in 2014. We calculated areal BMD for chronological age and height-adjusted areal BMD (Ht-aBMD) z scores ...

Jeong‐Bong Lee, Mark G. Allen, Thomas C. Hodge, Sue Ann Bidstrup, Paul A. Kohl,
Polymeric thin films are widely used in microelectronic applications for a variety of purposes. These films may possess completely isotropic material properties and yet still exhibit anisotropic effects due to the constraining influence of the substrate coupling into the film behavior via the film Poisson ratio. A theoretical model of this effect on the through-plane thermal properties of isotropic thin films for single layer (thin film rigidly clamped) and bilayer (thin film on substrate, e.g., silicon ...
