The objective is to assess electrocardiographic characteristics predicting the precise location of ventricular arrhythmia (VA) origin within the right ventricle (RV) close to the His bundle (HB) region. Twenty-five patients (14 men, age 65 ± 14 years) underwent successful catheter ablation of para-Hisian VA. Ventricular arrhythmias were considered to arise in the vicinity of the HB region based on the criteria that mapping exhibited the earliest RV activation before QRS onset in the HB region. Surface ...

Mechanism in the pathogenesis of acute respiratory distress syndrome which is the clinical feature of pulmonary involvement in retinoic acid (RA) syndrome has been investigated. Pulmonary infiltration of matured neutrophils and leukemic cells is thought to be associated with the pathogenesis of pulmonary involvement in RA syndrome; however. Little is known about the mechanism in pulmonary infiltration of these cells. In the present study, we examined the effect of RA on IL-1β and IL-1ra production ...

The optimum device parameters of variable threshold voltage complementary metal oxide semiconductor (VTCMOS) have been investigated by means of device simulation and its scalability has been discussed. The optimum body effect factor depends on the relationship between the substrate bias and the supply voltage. It is shown that the VTCMOS scheme aiming at extremely low stand-by power will fail as the device size and the supply voltage are scaled. The advantage of VTCMOS will be its high speed, and ...

Abstract The effect of new signal processing and driving methods introduced to 42‐inch HDTV DC PDP to improve moving picture quality is evaluated by both computer simulation and subjective evaluation of the moving pictures. The results show that our techniques sufficiently improve picture quality for practical use in the HDTV PDP receiver.

Bleomycin (BLM) has proven effective for the treatment of cancers, but the most serious dose-limiting side-effect is the development of pulmonary toxicity. Although the precise mechanism in the pathogenesis of BLM-induced lung injury has not been determined, oxygen radicals and neutrophils are indicated to play a key role in it. Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is thought to be an important mediator of the pathogenesis of acute lung injury. The IL-8 production from bronchial epithelial cell line, BEAS-2B cells ...

Dumon® Y-stents and Dynamic stents are used to treat carinal stenosis, but their placement severely impairs the expectoration of secretions, making frequent bronchoscopic aspiration necessary. We report here five patients with terminal lung cancer who had stenosis of the lower trachea and main bronchi treated using spiral Z-stents. A long tapered spiral Z-stent was placed in the lower trachea and one main bronchus, and a short straight spiral Z-stent in the contralateral main bronchus. No patients ...

Abstract Utilizing the swelling effect induced by UV light irradiation in organopolysilane films, the patterned dyeing with water-soluble dyes was successfully demonstrated. Only basic dyes gave the dyeing effect, suggesting the existence of a specific interaction between basic dyes and Si–OH moieties formed by UV photodecomposition. The narrow line pattern of 40 μm width was completely reproduced with dyeing.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is one of the major etiological pathogens for liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Chronic HBV infection is a key factor in these severe liver diseases. During infection, HBV forms a nuclear viral episome in the form of covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA). Current therapies are not able to efficiently eliminate cccDNA from infected hepatocytes. cccDNA is a master template for viral replication that is formed by the conversion of its precursor, relaxed circular ...

The aluminum-carbon nanotube composite (Al-CNT composite) much improves the properties of aluminum such as the toughness and the electrical conductivity. However, the manufacturing procedure for producing the Al-CNT composite requires multistage processes. We obtained electrolytically the Al-CNT composite coating from a 66.7 mol%AlCl3–33.3 mol%1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride bath containing CNT in a single process for the first time. We also visualized and clarified the process whereby solid ...

ICGN is a strain of mice with hereditary nephrotic syndrome of an unknown cause. In this study, early glomerular alterations in newborn ICGN mice were observed with electron microscopy to gain a better insight into the onset of the disease. Development of the glomeruli was normal until fusion of epithelial and endothelial basement membranes in the developing capillary stage. From the maturing glomerulus stage onward, the fused glomerular basement membrane (GBM) increased in thickness by excessive ...

Superconductors, Tl2-zBa2Ca1.95Y0.05Cu3Oy, with variable Tl contents were prepared. We investigated the dependence of their properties, crystal structures and Tc on the Tl content. The Cu valence decreased with decreasing Tl content, 2-z, in the region of 2-z≥1.5 but increased in the region of 1.2≤2-z<1.5. The critical temperature, Tc changed with decreasing Tl content. Tc(zero) was 116 K at 2-z=1.7. When the Tl content was decreased, Tc(zero) reached the maximum value of 119 K at 2-z=1.2. The results ...

MCP-1 and MIP-1alpha exhibit chemotactic activity toward macrophages/monocytes and induce the production of inflammatory cytokines affecting granuloma formation. Up-regulated expression of MCP-1 and MIP-1alpha in the affected organ of sarcoidosis has been shown; however, the relationship between their plasma levels and the clinical course of this disease has not been determined. In the present study we measured plasma MCP-1 and MIP-1alpha levels in 26 patients with active sarcoidosis by ELISA in ...

Zeolite (Na-A, Na-Y, H-ZSM5) films were prepared by the electrophoretic deposition method. In this paper, a ‘non-sintering treatment’ was investigated using the zeolite powder by addition of colloidal silica. As a result, the zeolite was deposited on the substrate from the following solvents; Na-A in acetonitrile, Na-Y in acetone, H-ZSM5 in acetonitrile added benzoic acid. Zeolite films formed in the above solvents with colloidal silica upon heating at 400°C. As a result, the Vickers hardness of the ...

In order to improve the pervaporation performance of silicalite membrane, two types of silicone rubber, KE45 and KE108, were coated on the membrane surface. The initial molecular weight of KE108 is high and vulcanizing starts when it comes into contact with moisture in air, whereas the initial molecular weight of KE45 is low and vulcanizing starts when it is mixed with a catalyst. KE108 was found to be more effective than KE45 in enhancing the ethanol selectivity of silicalite membranes. A membrane ...

BTDA and ODA were simultaneously deposited on substrates in a vacuum of 10−6 Torr, where the molar ratio of BTDA to ODA is unity. First-principles molecular dynamics (FPMD) simulations are highly accurate, but due to their high calculation cost, the computational scale is often limited to hundreds of atoms and few picoseconds under specific temperature and pressure conditions. We present here the guidelines for creating artificial neural network empirical interatomic potential (ANN potential) trained with such a limited FPMD data, which can perform long time scale MD simulations at least under the same conditions. The FPMD data ...
