The mechanism of anaerobic reduction of NO2− to N2O in a photodenitrifier, Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides forma sp. denitrificans, was investigated. With ascorbate-reduced phenazine methosulfate (PMS) as the electron donor, the nitrite reductase of this photodenitrifier reduced NO2− to NO and a trace amount of N2O. With dithionite-reduced benzyl viologen as the electron donor, the major product of NO2− reduction was NH2OH, and a trace amount of N2O was also produced. The nitrate reductase itself had ...

Nitrite oxides were generated readily by the reaction of aldoximes 1, with tert-butyl hypochlorite and bis(tributyltin) oxide. The reaction proceeded efficiently under mild conditions, in which O-stannylated aldoximes 2 are thought to be key intermediates. This reaction system was applicable to the one-pot syntheses of isoxazole derivatives 4 and 5 in the presence of dipolarophiles via a [3 + 2] cycloaddition.

Marburg virus (MARV) VP40 is a matrix protein that can be released from mammalian cells in the form of virus-like particles (VLPs) and contains the PPPY sequence, which is an L-domain motif. Here, we demonstrate that the PPPY motif is important for VP40-induced VLP budding and that VLP production is significantly enhanced by coexpression of NP and GP. We show that Tsg101 interacts with VP40 depending on the presence of the PPPY motif, but not the PT/SAP motif as in the case of Ebola virus, and plays ...

ABSTRACT It is known that Lassa virus Z protein is sufficient for the release of virus-like particles (VLPs) and that it has two L domains, PTAP and PPPY, in its C terminus. However, little is known about the cellular factor for Lassa virus budding. We examined which cellular factors are used in Lassa virus Z budding. We demonstrated that Lassa Z protein efficiently produces VLPs and uses cellular factors, Vps4A, Vps4B, and Tsg101, in budding, suggesting that Lassa virus budding uses the multivesicular ...

Clonal analysis has shown that hepatocellular carcinoma arises from a single cell. However, the clonality of precancerous lesions and adjacent nonneoplastic tissues is not clear. We analyzed a human androgen receptor locus to elucidate the clonal state of liver tissues including post-hepatitic lesions associated with hepatocarcinogenesis. The analysis was based on a restriction fragment length polymorphism involving an androgen receptor locus on the X chromosome, taking advantage of physiologic ...

Development of ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR) insulation system has been advanced for a compact power lead of 66 kV-class high temperature superconducting fault current limiter (SCFCL). It is well known that insulation layers of superconducting cables are molded by extruding EPR containing inorganic filler. The power leads are not as long as the superconducting cables, making it difficult to mold their insulation layers by extrusion. When molding EPR by heat treatment, voids tend to remain in the ...

Studies on thermoelectric materials have been primarily centred on conversion efficiency, as if to assert a high-efficiency thermoelectric module always generates a large electrical power. However, there is a trade-off between conversion efficiency and power density under thermal and electrical energy losses due to contact resistances at electrode junctions. Thus, simultaneously boosting the power density and conversion efficiency ('dual-boost') is essential. Here, to overcome the trade-off by minimizing ...

Adult newts can regenerate large parts of their brain from adult neural stem cells (NSCs), but how adult NSCs reorganize brain structures during regeneration remains unclear. In development, elaborate brain structures are produced under broadly coordinated regulations of embryonic NSCs in the neural tube, whereas brain regeneration entails exquisite control of the re-establishment of certain brain parts, suggesting that a yet-unknown mechanism directs NSCs upon partial brain excision. Here we report ...

Oral nucleoside analogs (NAs) reduce hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication by inhibiting HBV DNA polymerase. However, NAs can also affect human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) polymerase, which can lead to mtDNA depletion (quantitative abnormality). Indeed, several mitochondrial myopathy cases have been reported in which a reduced mtDNA copy number was induced by oral NAs for hepatitis B. Herein, we report a case of toxic myopathy with multiple mtDNA deletions (qualitative abnormality) associated with long‐term ...

Article abstract A nationwide survey and recent information documented 57 patients with Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD) who had received dura mater grafts during the period between January 1979 and September 1999. At least 54 of these 57 patients received the same brand of dura mater graft from the same processor. Mean age at disease onset in the 57 patients with dural grafts was younger (51.9 years) than that in patients with sporadic CJD (63 years) ( p < 0.0001). Abstract The efficacy of the nonenhanced magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) technique known as fresh‐blood imaging (FBI), using electrocardiograph (ECG)‐triggered 3D half‐Fourier fast spin‐echo (FSE), was evaluated for the detection and characterization of aortic diseases. Seventy‐five consecutive patients with aortic disease underwent the FBI examination on a 1.5‐T clinical imager. The results showed that the FBI technique permits clear visualization of aortic diseases, and the vessel branches and ...

Methods Between January 2013 and June 2015, we performed the reverse wire technique for guidewire crossing into an extremely angulated side branch in consecutive seven ...

Because of its peculiar anatomical characteristics, one of the problems regarding percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for these lesions is related to the involvement of branch vessels. Ebola virus (EBOV) VP40 is a major driving force of nascent virion production and a negative regulator of genome replication/transcription. Here, we showed that the YIGL sequence at the C-terminus of EBOV VP40 is important for virus-like particle (VLP) production and the regulation of genome replication/transcription. Accordingly, a mutation in the YIGL sequence caused defects in VLP production and genome replication/transcription. The residues I293 and L295 in the YIGL sequence were particularly ...
