Hsp70 interactions are critical for cellular viability and the response to stress. Previous attempts to characterize Hsp70 interactions have been limited by their transient nature and the inability of current technologies to distinguish direct versus bridged interactions. We report the novel use of cross-linking mass spectrometry (XL-MS) to comprehensively characterize the Saccharomyces cerevisiae (budding yeast) Hsp70 protein interactome. Using this approach, we have gained fundamental new insights ...

Neuro-inflammation plays a key role in the pathophysiology of brain infarction. Cell therapy offers a novel therapeutic option due to its effect on immunomodulatory effects. Amniotic stem cells, in particular, show promise owing to their low immunogenicity, tumorigenicity, and easy availability from amniotic membranes discarded following birth. We have successfully isolated and expanded human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs). Herein, we evaluated the therapeutic effect of hAMSCs on neurological ...

Abstract High-density micro light-emitting diode ( μ -LED) arrays are key to next-generation ultrahigh-resolution displays. As a novel candidate, we report monolithic vertically stacked full-color LEDs consisting of Eu-doped GaN and InGaN quantum wells (QWs). Initially growing Eu-doped GaN, which shows a narrow linewidth ultra-stable red emission, allows vertically stacked growth of subsequent InGaN-QW-based blue/green LEDs while maintaining a high crystal quality. Electroluminescence from full-color ...

Abstract Background Bipolar disorder is associated with circadian disruption and a high risk of suicidal behavior. In a previous exploratory study of patients with bipolar I disorder, we found that a history of suicide attempts was associated with differences between winter and summer levels of solar insolation. The purpose of this study was to confirm this finding using international data from 42% more collection sites and 25% more countries. Methods Data analyzed were from 71 prior and new collection ...

Patients with cancer cachexia (CCX) suffer from muscle wasting, which is often but not always accompanied by selective loss of myosin. Here we examined the effects of CCX on muscle mass and myosin heavy chain (MyHC) expression in denervated (DEN) muscles, especially focusing on the protein synthesis and degradation pathways. Male CD2F1 mice were randomly divided into control (CNT) and CCX groups and their left sciatic nerve was transected. CCX was induced by an intraperitoneal injection of colon 26 ...

Abstract The relationships between depression and gut microbiota, particularly those involving the immune system, have become a major focus of recent research. Here, we analyzed changes in gut microbiota and their sulfur metabolites in the feces of a depression rat model using the modified 14-day social defeat stress (SDS) paradigm. Our results showed that SDS increased fecal Lactobacillus reuteri in correlation with ergothioneine levels at around day 11, which continued for at least 1 month following ...

Little is known about the effect of latent-phase herpesviruses on their host. Human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B) is one of the most ubiquitous herpesviruses, and olfactory astrocytes are one of the most important sites of its latency. Here, we identified SITH-1, an HHV-6B latent protein specifically expressed in astrocytes. Mice induced to produce SITH-1 in their olfactory astrocytes exhibited olfactory bulb apoptosis, a hyper-activated hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and depressive symptoms. ...

The excitation efficiency and external luminescence quantum efficiency of trivalent ${\mathrm{Eu}}^{3+}$ ions doped into gallium nitride ($\mathrm{Ga}\mathrm{N}$) is studied under optical and electrical excitation. For small pump fluences, the excitation of ${\mathrm{Eu}}^{3+}$ ions is limited by an efficient carrier trap that competes in energy transfer from the host material. For large pump fluences, the limited number of high-efficiency ${\mathrm{Eu}}^{3+}$ centers and the small excitation cross section ...
