The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation from fresh leaves of Bauhinia cheilantha was analysed by GC-FID and GC-MS. The chemical composition of the essential oil was dominated by sesquiterpenes (78.59%). The major components were identified as (E)-caryophyllene (21.65%), α-pinene (11.75%), spathulenol (4.84%) and caryophyllene oxide (4.62%).
