ABSTRACT An analysis of the functional morphology of the skull of Teratomis merriami indicates that these giant flying birds were predaceous carnivores. This contrasts with prior assumptions that teratorns were scavengers like vultures. The large wingspans of teratorns limited them to savanna habitats.
