The genotoxicity and cytotoxicity of water in small urban basins was evaluated by the Salmonella/microsome assay and micronucleus test in V79 cells. The results showed that the cytotoxic effect was the most significant response in areas with medium to heavy urban occupation for both assays evaluated. Water samples from these areas include different concentrations of chloroform, bromodichloromethane, toluene, ethylbenzene, m,p-xylene and 1,4-dichlorobenzene. As to genotoxic damage, the presence of ...

Equilibrium data for the ternary liquid-liquid system formed of a triblock copolymer (L64 or F68), sulfate salts (Cu(II) or Fe(III)) and water were investigated in this work. The effects of temperature (278.15, 288.15 and 298.15 K), the nature of the cation and the copolymer molar mass on the phase diagram of the aqueous two-phase system were investigated. An increase in temperature decreased the biphasic region for the entire system. Cu(II) and F68 were better able to induce phase separation compared ...

The self-adaptation of software systems is a complex process that depends on several factors that can change during the system operational lifetime. Hence, it is necessary to define mechanisms for providing a self-adaptive system the capability of generating during run-time the process that controls its adaptation. This paper presents a framework for the automatic generation of processes for self-adaptive software systems based on the use of workflows, model-based and artificial intelligence planning ...

Abstract The preparation and structures of 2, 2′‐dihydroxyazobenzenato‐dibutyl‐tin [Bu 2 SnL] and 2, 2′‐dihydroxyazobenzenato‐dimethyl‐tin [Me 2 SnL] are described. The complexes were characterized by IR, NMR ( 1 H, 13 C, 119 Sn) and UV/VIS spectra. The crystal structures were determined by X‐ray diffraction on single crystals. In the present work, simultaneous thermogravimetric (TG) and differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) analyses were used to investigate the effect of the acidity of HZSM-5 zeolites on the catalytic degradation of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The acidity of the zeolite was modified by ion exchange with sodium. The results obtained using HZSM-5 zeolites of varying acid strengths show the effect of increasing the acidity on the reduction of the degradation temperature. The addition of sodium to HZSM- ...

We present attributes of snow occurrence and dissipation rates (melt and sublimation) for the Lesotho Highlands, based on remotely-sensed MODIS images from 2003–2016. Multi-temporal imagery is used, with SNOMAP and NDSI algorithms applied to MODIS Rapid Response images. The spatial extent of snow loss was determined by daily repeat measurements of snow coverage, which was calculated from each filtered and trimmed MODIS SNOMAP image using the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst tool. Results indicate an average ...

The skin presents several advantages as an administration route, including the possibility of localizing drugs in the tissue and overcoming the first-pass effect. However, its use is limited by the barrier function of the tissue, which is provided mainly (but not exclusively) by the stratum corneum. Various strategies to overcome this layer, have been considered over the years, ranging from the use of physical methods such as iontophoresis to wellknown conventional chemical penetration enhancers ...

Quercetin is a natural compound that has several biological activities including anticancer activity. However, the use of this drug has been limited mostly because of its poor water solubility and low bioavailability. Therefore, the development of quercetin-loaded nanocarrier systems may be considered a promising advance to exploit its therapeutic properties in clinical setting including cancer treatment. This study evaluates the effect of orally administered nanosized emulsion containing quercetin ( ...

Mining activity is one of the main responsible for accumulation of potentially toxic elements in the environment. These contaminants are absorbed by plants served as food that could be a risk to human health, such rice. Rice is a staple food with known accumulation of toxic elements. Metallic nanoparticles (NPs) have been widely used in different areas of science. Usually, they are immobilized on a low-cost support for catalysis purposes. However, there is a lack of studies for specific methods for analytical quantification since the extraction of these metallic NPs from the matrix is still a challenge. Emerging contaminants such as drugs and pharmaceuticals have attracted attention in recent years due to their adverse effects in humans and the environment. This paper suggests some mechanisms for supporting a modular approach to specifications written using Z. The general idea is that a (system) specification must be a document which may be split into chapters. Chapters may share objects through import and export declarations, and it is possible to define generic chapters which may be instantiated.

Software Product Lines are growing as a systematic way for achieving reuse in software companies. It involves three processes: domain engineering, application engineering and management. In domain engineering, assets that will be reused by products are developed, composing the core assets. A good DSSA increases the probability of the success ...

The reliability of a component-based software system depends on the reliability of the components that is made of. So far the software industry was concentrated on the functional aspects of components, leaving ...

Duplicate bug report entries in bug trackers have a negative impact on software maintenance and evolution. This is due, among other factors, to the increased time spent on report analysis and validation, which in some cases takes over 20 min. Therefore, a considerable amount of time is lost in duplicate bug report analysis. In order to understand the possible factors that cause bug report duplication and its impact on software development, this paper presents an exploratory study in which bug tracking ...

Also, we present an evolutionary learning process, called DEP(MGA), using a modified genetic algorithm (MGA) to design the DEP model, because a drawback ...
