The capacity of reef-building corals to tolerate (or adapt to) heat stress is a key factor determining their resilience to future climate change. Changes in coral microbiome composition (particularly for microalgal endosymbionts and bacteria) is a potential mechanism that may assist corals to thrive in warm waters. The northern Red Sea experiences extreme temperatures anomalies, yet corals in this area rarely bleach suggesting possible refugia to climate change. However, the coral microbiome composition, ...

In September 2017 the Agia Zoni II sank in the Saronic Gulf, Greece, releasing approximately 500 tonnes of heavy fuel oil, contaminating the Salamina and Athens coastlines. Effects of the spill, and remediation efforts, on sediment microbial communities were quantified over the following 7 months. Five days post-spill, the concentration of measured hydrocarbons within surface sediments of contaminated beaches was 1,093-3,773 μg g-1 dry sediment (91% alkanes and 9% polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), ...

Activated PI3Kδ Syndrome (APDS) is a rare inherited inborn error of immunity caused by mutations that constitutively activate the p110 delta isoform of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3Kδ), resulting in recurring pulmonary infections. Currently no licensed therapies are available. Here we report the results of an open-label trial in which five subjects were treated for 12 weeks with nemiralisib, an inhaled inhibitor of PI3Kδ, to determine safety, systemic exposure, together with lung and systemic biomarker ...

A multi-aperture Ehlers-type source has been constructed and operated to produce a 60 mA Xe/sup +1/ beam. The multi-aperture source utilizes a 13 hole aperture in a circular pattern producing a beam 25 mm in diameter. An accel--decel extraction system was used, producing a 22.5 keV beam whose normalized emittance at 29 mA was 0.027 ..pi.. cm--mrad. The neutralized beam was transported one meter through two magnetic quadrupole triplets to the entrance of a 20 cm accelerating gap consisting of five intermediate ...
