M. Thomas P. Gilbert,

Whether as the ancient Egyptian crocodile-god Sobek, a terrifying predator of African waterways, or simply as a premium handbag leather, the Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) has long held the fascination of mankind. Despite 200 years of study, however, uncertainty remains as to its taxonomy. While resolving such issues are key to understanding the origins and biogeography of the so-called true crocodiles of genus Crocodylus, given widespread ongoing range contraction, such issues are paramount ...

Abstract Very recently, we were able to measure CO absorption features in the atmosphere of the non‐transiting planet τ Boo b for the very first time. This allowed us to unravel a long‐term mystery in planet atmosphere studies, the determination of the orbital inclination of a non‐transiting planet and the exact planetary mass, respectively being 46° and 5.7 M Jup . In light of these new results, we reanalyzed a UVES/VLT data set taken by us with the goal to detect starlight reflected from this hot ...

Suzanne Hinton,

It is June, 2002. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has just stepped on to the stage at the end of a concert in celebration of her Golden Jubilee. Her son and heir, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, approaches her. He inclines his slightly greying head to his monarch. He speaks: ‘Your Majesty…’. He pauses for a fraction of a second, and then continues: ‘Mummy …’. A sharp intake of breath is heard across the land. Why?
