Field work conducted by the staff of the Centro de Pesquisas Paleontológicas Llewellyn Ivor Price of the Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro since 2009 at Campina Verde municipality (MG) have resulted in the discovery of a diverse vertebrate fauna from the Adamantina Formation (Bauru Basin). The baurusuchid Campinasuchus dinizi was described in 2011 from Fazenda Três Antas site and after that, preliminary descriptions of a partial crocodyliform egg, abelisaurid teeth, and fish remains have been ...

Two specimens of Campinasuchus dinizi (CPPLIP 1319 and CPPLIP 1360) belonging to Baurusuchidae (Crocodyliformes, Notosuchia) from the Upper Cretaceous Bauru Group of Minas Gerais state (Brazil) were scanned in a Toshiba Aquilion 64 CT machine. Based on these data, it was possible to identify and reconstruct the paranasal sinuses, the nasal cavity proper, the nasopharyngeal duct, the encephalon, the paratympanic sinuses, and the semicircular canals of the inner ear. The paranasal sinuses present similar ...

A new record of noasaurid theropod (Dinosauria, Abelisauria) is here described and compared, including the description of its microstructure. It consists of an almost complete femur of small size (132 mm of preserved length) discovered in 2014 in a new locality at Campina Verde Municipality, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The new locality is named Fazenda Seis Irmãos-Grotas and has also provided thousands of ostracods, few fish remains, and a partial skeleton of an indeterminate baurusuchid mesoeucrocodylian. ...

Isolated left prefrontal, left squamosal and atlas of titanosaur dinosaurs are described and compared. They come from the Late Cretaceous Serra da Galga Member of the Marília Formation at the Serra do Veadinho region, Peirópolis (Uberaba County, Minas Gerais State, Brazil). Due to the sparse cranial elements of titanosaurs already known from Brazil, these specimens are noticeable to be presented. In addition, the atlas vertebra is described for the first time for Brazilian titanosaurs. The morphology ...

The description of new titanosaur specimens unearthed from deposits of the Serra da Galga Formation (Bauru Group, Late Cretaceous) at the BR-262 site, near Peirópolis (Uberaba, Minas Gerais State, Brazil), sheds light on the taxonomy of two taxa previously known from the same area and geological unit: Baurutitan britoi and Trigonosaurus pricei . A comparative revision indicates that T. pricei represents a junior synonym of Ba. britoi , and that the BR-262 specimens belong to that latter species. The information ...

This cross-sectional study analysed cone beam computed tomography images selected from a database belonging to a radiology centre. The scans of 174 healthy patients were analysed by using the Xoran software. Gender, age, and side were correlated with the Keros classification. The mean age of the 174 patients was 45.3 years. The most prevalent Keros classification was type ...

Pseudo–coprolites are inorganic structures often confused with fossil faeces. The absence of some diagnostic features, such as inclusions, coprofabrics, grain adhesion, and defined shape, suffices to disregard these structures as coprolites. The stratigraphic record of distributive fluvial systems is commonly characterised by frequent and complex interstratification of palaeosols among channel and overbank deposits. However, current models focus primarily on sedimentation and pay only limited attention to palaeopedogenesis, thereby failing to incorporate important palaeoenvironmental and stratigraphic information. This study proposes a pedosedimentary model for distributive fluvial systems that depicts and accounts for two palaeopedogenetic ...

Aeolosaurus is a late Cretaceous Titanosaur genus with two species discovered in Argentina and one in Brazil. Although the allocation of the Argentinean Aeolosaurus seems unequivocal, that is not the case for the Brazilian species Aeolosaurus maximus since several authors questioned its positioning into this genus, based on both anatomical and phylogenetic data. The revision of the diagnosis of Ae. maximus, with the proposition of a new autapomorphy, corroborates the anatomical uniqueness and our ...

The main objective of this paper is to present and discuss the best methods to estimate live above ground biomass in the Atlantic Forest. The methods presented and conclusions are the products of a workshop entitled "Estimation of Biomass and Carbon Stocks: the Case of Atlantic Rain Forest". Aboveground biomass (AGB) in tropical forests is mainly contained in trees. Tree biomass is a function of wood volume, obtained from the diameter and height, architecture and wood density (dry weight per unit volume ...

The availability of accurate techniques to discriminate between marked laboratory-reared flies and unmarked wild flies captured in monitoring traps is essential for programs that integrate the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) to manage fruit flies. In this study, the feasibility of using a stable isotope marking technique for the South American fruit fly, Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann), was assessed. Wild flies were collected from apple orchards, which are a target of a SIT project in southern Brazil. ...

Stable carbon isotope ratios can be used to discriminate between wild and sterile insects that are caught in surveillance traps when 2 isotopically distinct dietary sources are available for the immature or adult stages. Artificial diets containing naturally 13C-labelled sugar can isotopically mark the adults of some tephritids, but when sexually mature flies are released in the field, their food source usually changes from a C4 to a C3 plant. Consequently, the isotopic composition of flies can ...

The Bauru Basin of SE Brazil is a large (ca. 370,000 km 2 ) Upper Cretaceous intracratonic feature, important for its fossil remains and of particular value as a source of regional palaeoclimatic information. In particular, the northeastern deposits of the Marília Formation ( ...

Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) is a public health problem that affects over 38 million people worldwide. Although there are highly active antiretroviral therapies, emergence of antiviral resistant strains is a problem which leads to almost a million death annually.
