Abstract Sevan trout is an endemic fish species, registered in the Red Data Book of Armenian Animals as a ‘Critically Endangered’ species (IUCN category: CR A2cd) and is one of the most valuable fish of the Armenian ichthyofauna. For the purpose of preservation of this endangered fish species, rivers in the South-West part of Lake Sevan have been studied and their potential for spawning has been assessed through a relatively ‘cheap’ and ‘time-saving’ approach developed on the basis of hydrophysical, ...

Background: The LIPA gene encodes for lysosomal acid lipase (LAL), which catalyzes the hydrolysis of cholesterol esters and triglycerides. Variations in the LIPA gene impair LAL activity, predisposing patients to a rare metabolic disorder called LAL deficiency (LAL-D). The lack of functioning LAL promotes lipid accumulation and subsequent dyslipidemia, which can increase the likelihood of complications in both infants and adults. Although the worldwide prevalence is 1:500,000 births, the frequency ...

Lake Sevan is a freshwater reservoir in the Caucasus region. Since the first half of the 20th century, the lake has undergone significant changes caused by human activity and anthropogenic pressure. To identify the current ecological state of two bays—Lchashen and Lichk—located in different parts of the lake, a study was conducted in 2022–2023 using a multi-biomarker approach. For this purpose, biomarkers for assessing the health status of fish and the quality of their living conditions were used ...

The endangered endemic species Sevan trout (Salmo ischchan Kessler, 1877) is under the threat of extinction and its survival is dependent on restocking by smolts. Thus, there is an urgent need to find an effective solution for restocking wild populations. After developing a theoretical methodology to reveal the most suitable parts of spawning rivers for natural reproduction, we consider the incubation of eggs in the wild as an appropriate method for the validation of the results of the theoretical ...
