In this study, we investigated the ability of Pseudomonas putida toluene dioxygenase to oxidize chloroanilines. Toluene-induced P. putida T57 cells degraded 4-chloroaniline (4CA) more rapidly than toluene-non-induced cells, suggesting that toluene dioxygenase pathway was involved in 4CA degradation. Escherichia coli harboring P. putida T57 genes encoding toluene dioxygenase complex (todC1C2BA) showed 4CA degradation activity, demonstrating that toluene dioxygenase oxidizes 4CA. Thin-layer chromatography ( ...

ABSTRACT Bacterial chemotaxis influences the ability of bacteria to survive and thrive in most environments, including polluted ones. Despite numerous reports of the phenotypic characterization of chemotactic bacteria, only a few molecular details of chemoreceptors for aromatic pollutants have been described. In this study, the molecular basis of chemotaxis toward an environmentally toxic chlorinated aromatic pollutant, 4-chloroaniline (4CA), was evaluated. Among the three Pseudomonas spp. tested, ...

Currently, research in nanoparticles as a drug delivery system has broadened to include their use as a delivery system for bioactive substances and a diagnostic or theranostic system. Nanogels, nanoparticles containing a high amount of water, have gained attention due to their advantages of colloidal stability, core-shell structure, and adjustable structural components. These advantages provide the potential to design and fabricate multifunctional nanosystems for various biomedical applications. ...

Curcumin is an extract of turmeric (Curcuma longa) which possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and wound-healing effects and has been used as an active compound in biomedical research for many years. However, its poor solubility presents challenges for its use in drug delivery systems. A modified nanogel delivery system, with PNIPAM and β-cyclodextrin grafted onto hyaluronic acid (PNCDHA), was utilized to enhance the solubility. The polymer was characterized by NMR, and the inclusion complex between ...

In mitigating occupational hazards, there is often a need to use administrative controls such as job rotation over a prolonged period until the hazards can be eliminated or mitigated to safe levels. This research develops a noise-safe job-rotation optimization model that accounts for learning, forgetting, and boredom effects. Our analysis focuses on the case of human-paced and labor-intensive operations, considering the trade-off between safety and productivity.A case of multi-skilled workers that ...

Summary Background Safe anaesthesia and surgery are a public health imperative. There are few data describing outcomes for children undergoing anaesthesia and surgery in Africa. We aimed to get robust epidemiological data to describe patient care and outcomes for children undergoing anaesthesia and surgery in hospitals in Africa. Methods This study was a 14-day, international, prospective, observational cohort study of children (aged <18 years) undergoing surgery in Africa. We recruited as many hospitals ...

Background: Vaginal pessaries have been used as an option for conservative treatment of pelvic organ prolapse. Objectives: To determine if vaginal pessaries improve vaginal symptoms, quality of life, and satisfaction in women with pelvic organ prolapse after 3 to 6 months of pessary use. Methods: This was a prospective observational study in a cohort of women presenting for a vaginal pessary fitting for pelvic organ prolapse. The women were asked to complete an International Consultation on Incontinence ...

We have proposed a quantitative model of the development of dorsal horn cell receptive fields (RFs) and somatotopic organization (Brown et al. [1997] Somatosens. Motor Res. 14:93–106). One component of that model is a hypothesis that convergence and divergence of connections between low-threshold primary afferent mechanoreceptive axons and dorsal horn cells are invariant over skin location and dorsal horn location. The more limited, and more easily tested, hypothesis that spatial convergence and divergence ...

A tisane was made from the leaves of avocado, oregano and coconut fiber; with the purpose of establishing a process for obtaining this product. This research begins with the identification of the species of the vegetal elements and their respective active principles. The production process was developed at the laboratory level, it involved a set of stages of transformation of the raw material to reach the final product, considering specific variables or parameters such as: PH, temperature, average ...

The solvent most commonly used to prepare cannabis inflorescence samples is a mixture of methanol and chloroform (9:1), which poses a health hazard. This study aimed to develop a solvent system that maximizes the extraction of two major cannabinoids, cannabidiol (CBD) and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), with superior performance to conventional solvents. The cannabinoid content was determined using high-performance liquid chromatography. The stability of these two cannabinoids in the optimal solvent ...
