Etsuji Tomita, Tomokazu Seki,

We present an exact and efficient branch-and-bound algorithm for finding a maximum clique in an arbitrary graph. The algorithm is not specialized for any particular kind of graph. It employs approximate coloring and appropriate sorting of vertices to get an upper bound on the size of a maximum clique. We demonstrate by computational experiments on random graphs with up to 15,000 vertices and on DIMACS benchmark graphs that our algorithm remarkably outperforms other existing algorithms in general. ...

Internet addiction (IA) has various adverse effects. We sought to elucidate the relationship between IA and depression among university students and to identify factors associated with IA.Anonymous, self-administered questionnaires were distributed to 5,261 students and comprised basic characteristics, lifestyle habits, anxieties, the Internet Addiction Test (IAT), and the Center for Epidemiological Self-Depression Scale.Responses were obtained from 4,490 students (response rate: 85.3%). After excluding ...

The cluster formation, electrophoretically deposited film structures, microwave conductivity, and photoelectrochemical properties of the composites consisting of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) with C60, C70, or C84 have been systematically compared for the first time. In an ortho-dichlorobenzene (ODCB)−acetonitrile mixture, the higher fullerenes (i.e., C70 and C84) were found to form single composite clusters exclusively with highly soluble SWNT bearing bulky swallow-tailed substituents (f-SWNT). ...

S/GSK1349572 is a next-generation HIV integrase (IN) inhibitor designed to deliver potent antiviral activity with a low-milligram once-daily dose requiring no pharmacokinetic (PK) booster. In addition, S/GSK1349572 demonstrates activity against clinically relevant IN mutant viruses and has potential for a high genetic barrier to resistance. S/GSK1349572 is a two-metal-binding HIV integrase strand transfer inhibitor whose mechanism of action was established through in vitro integrase enzyme assays, ...

Optical 3D alignment of nanocylinders has been successfully attained for thin films of a block copolymer (see figure) comprising azobenzene-containing liquid-crystalline polymers and poly(ethylene oxide) via photoinduced massive migration. The out-of-plane and in-plane alignments are achieved by controlling the film thickness and selection of linear polarization direction upon illumination, respectively.

Our group has focused on expanding the scope of a two-metal binding pharmacophore concept to explore HIV-1 integrase inhibitors through medicinal chemistry efforts to design novel scaffolds which allow for improvement of pharmacokinetic (PK) and resistance profiles. A novel chelating scaffold was rationally designed to effectively coordinate two magnesium cofactors and to extend an aromatic group into an optimal hydrophobic pharmacophore space. The new chemotype, consisting of a carbamoyl pyridone ...

We have discovered HIV-1 novel integrase-LEDGF/p75 allosteric inhibitors (INLAIs) based on a pyridine scaffold forming an intramolecular hydrogen bond. Scaffolds containing a pyridine moiety have been studied extensively and we have already reported that substituents extending from the C1 position contributed to the antiviral potency. In this study, we designed a new pyridine scaffold 2 with a substituent at the C1 position. Interestingly, during attempts at optimization, we found that the direction ...

Small interstitial-type dislocation loops disappeared under electron-induced electronic excitation. The elimination rate of the loops was found to be one order higher than for α-alumina. The disappearance of dislocation loops by a dissociation mechanism into isolated interstitials ...

Background Mental imagery has a more powerful impact on our emotions than thinking in words about the same material. Treating intrusive images with imagery rescripting ( IR ) has been reported for various disorders, including post‐traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, and bipolar disorder. There has been less research about IR as a major depressive disorder ( MDD ). Aims We examined whether IR without focusing on early traumatic memories is effective in MDD . Methods We enrolled 19 participants ...

Abscisic acid (ABA) catabolism is one of the determinants of endogenous ABA levels affecting numerous aspects of plant growth and abiotic stress responses. The major ABA catabolic pathway is triggered by ABA 8'-hydroxylation catalysed by the cytochrome P450 CYP707A family. Among four members of Arabidopsis CYP707As, the expression of CYP707A3 was most highly induced in response to both dehydration and subsequent rehydration.
