Early Onset Scoliosis (EOS) is a complex pathology that covers a variety of etiologies, with onset before the age of 10 years. Surgical treatment of EOS should have the objectives of fulfilling maximum pulmonary function, spine length, with minimal hospitalizations, complications, and family burden. Radiographic parameters are an important standard in assessing treatment outcomes. However, the Early Onset Scoliosis Questionnaire-24 (EOSQ-24) was developed to measure the wider dimensions of outcomes ...

Cold weather remains one of the least explored environmental phenomena in the historiography of American slavery. By detailing the heightened vulnerabilities of the enslaved during the colder portions of the year and then describing the means by which enslaved people leveraged frigid weather against slaveholders, this paper highlights how slave and slaveholder differently mobilized the cold against one another in contests over power. It argues that in the lives of enslaved women and men in antebellum ...

In the interest of identifying new leads that could serve as prototype agrochemical agents, 18 structurally diverse marine-derived compounds were examined for insecticidal, herbicidal, and fungicidal activities. Several new classes of compounds have been shown to be insecticidal, herbicidal, and fungicidal, which suggests that marine natural products represent an intriguing source for the discovery of new agrochemical agents. Keywords: Agrochemicals; insecticides; herbicides; fungicides; marine ...

Abstract The primary cilium is an organelle that serves as a signaling center of the cell and is involved in the cAMP, Wnt, and hedgehog signaling pathways. Adenylyl cyclase type III (ACIII) is enriched in primary cilia and acts as a marker that is involved in cAMP signaling, while also playing an important role in regulating ciliogenesis and sensory functions. Ciliary function relies on the transportation of molecules between the primary cilium and the cell, which is facilitated by intraflagellar ...

Abstract Hypoglycemic effects of berberine (BBR) have been reported in several studies in cell and animal models. However, the mechanisms of action are not fully understood. The present study was therefore aimed at determining the effect and underlying mechanisms of action of BBR on diabetes in a high-fat diet– and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat model. Ninety male Sprague-Dawley rats, 150 to 170 g, were housed individually in cages. Two groups (n = 12 each) were fed the AIN-93G diet (normal control) and ...
