Electrochemical properties of all-solid-state lithium batteries using lithium borohydride (LiBH4) as a solid electrolyte are presented for the first time. Despite its high conductivity and good compatibility with a lithium electrode, LiBH4 has not been considered suitable for practical applications partly due to its high reducing capability when used with metal oxides. In our investigation, it was confirmed that contact between this hydride solid lithium ion conductor and LiCoO2 results in a large ...

To assess the safety of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program in gastrectomy and influences on nutrition state and insulin-resistance.Our ERAS program involved shortening the fasting periods and preoperative carbohydrate loading. Eighty gastrectomy patients were randomly assigned to either the conventional group (CG) or ERAS group (EG). We assessed the clinical characteristics and postoperative outcomes prospectively. The primary endpoint was noninferiority in timely discharge from the hospital ...

A pathogenic role of intraglomerular plasmin bound to nephritogenic antigen (nephritis-associated plasmin receptor, NAPlr) and resistant to physiologic inhibitors such as alpha(2)-antiplasmin (alpha(2)-AP) has recently been proposed in acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN). To confirm this concept, we analysed the urinary profile of plasmin cascade in APSGN patients.Urine samples from 10 patients with APSGN, 12 patients with IgA nephropathy (IgAN), 10 patients with streptococcal infection ...

Turbulence characteristics of a natural-convection boundary layer in air along a vertical plate heated at high temperatures are experimentally investigated. Two-dimensional velocity vectors and instantaneous temperature in the boundary layer at a wall temperature up to 300 °C are measured using a particle image velocimetry and a cold wire. From the correlation between the local Nusselt number Nux and the local Grashof number Grx, it was found that heat transfer rates even for a wall temperature of ...

A turbulent combined-convection boundary layer, created by imposing an aiding freestream on a turbulent natural-convection boundary layer along a vertical heated plate, was examined with normal hot- and cold-wires and a particle image velocimetry (PIV), with attention to the laminarization process of the boundary layer due to the freestream effects. As the freestream velocity increases, the wall shear stress monotonously increases, whereas the local heat transfer rate suddenly decreases. The reduction ...

Various sugar-carrying polystyrenes (PSs), which consist of synthetic styrene and sugar moieties, are glycoconjugates that are able to attach to polymeric surfaces. Heparin-carrying PS (HCPS) is especially able to retain the binding of heparin-binding growth factors (GFs) such as vascular endothelial GF 165 (VEGF(165)) or fibroblast GF 2 (FGF-2). Human skin fibroblast cells, human coronary smooth muscle cells, and human coronary endothelial cells have good adherence to the HCPS-coated plate. The growth ...

Fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in a turbulent combined-convection boundary layer in air along a vertical heated plate have been investigated with normal hot and cold wires. The measured heat transfer rates and turbulent quantities show that the turbulent transition moves downstream with a slight increase in freestream velocity. Then, the heat transfer rate rapidly decreases to about 40% of that obtained in the turbulent natural-convection boundary layer, and velocity and temperature ...

Abstract After peripheral nerve injury, minimizing axonal misdirection has been a matter of importance to obtain good functional outcomes. In general, it becomes more challenging as the nerve defect length is longer. As previous works suggested that a conduit repair leaving a short gap could induce some target‐specific reinnervation, we expected that a distally placed conduit combined with nerve graft would enhance the specificity of reinnervation, especially in dealing with a long gap. To test ...

This paper presents power management and low power techniques of our heterogeneous quad/octa-core mobile application processor (AP). This AP has a combination of high-performance 2 GHz cores and energy-efficient 1 GHz cores. The maximum performance in the octa-core configuration is 35,600 DMIPS. The key design highlights are as follows. 1) Using a dedicated PLL and H-tree clock in the high-performance CPU achieves both 2 GHz operation and reduced dynamic power. 2) A low-leakage SRAM in a 28 nm HPM ...

This paper describes a three-dimensional (3-D) system integration of a full-fledged processor chip and two memory chips using inductive coupling. To attain a 3-D communication link with a smaller area and lower power-consumption, shortening the link distance and preventing signal degradation due to unused inductors are important challenges. Therefore, we developed a new 3D-integrated wire-penetrated multi-layer structure for a shorter link distance and an open-skipped-inductor scheme for suppressing ...

Hierarchical power distribution with a power tree has been developed. The key features are a power-tree structure with three power-tree management rules and a distributed common power domain implementation. The hierarchical power distribution supports a fine-grained power gating with dozens of power domains, which is analogous to a fine-grained clock gating. Leakage currents of a 1 000 000-gate power domain were effectively reduced to 1/4000 in multi-CPU SoCs with minimal area overhead

The focus was on evaluating performance at relatively short gas retention time (13.5 and 27 sec). After significant plugging of the biotrickling filter beds with biomass was observed, the operation mode was switched ...

The microprocessor uses a switched substrate-impedance scheme to bias substrates in the standby mode while maintaining a 200-MHz operating speed. Data-retention capability during the standby mode is also maintained. This mode achieves 46.5-/spl mu/A standby current. The microprocessor ...
