Noise levels were measured, for the first time, inside 115 randomly selected transit buses, operating on 12 sample representative routes in Metropolitan Kuwait. Simultaneously with the monitoring of noise levels, the attitudes of 679 riders concerning the annoyance and long-term health impacts of noise were also surveyed. The noise and passenger attitude data were collected over 10 months (March - December 2000). The percentile distribution, equivalent noise level, traffic noise index and noise pollution ...

... The questionnaire was introduced as a survey about transit travel and ticketing but included questions about various aspects of fare evasion behaviour. The research developed a new framework for fare evasion psychology based on the concept of 'Consumer Misbehaviour' and the Theory of Planned Behaviour to explain intention to fare evade as a function of attitudes, norms, perceived control, "servicescape" perceptions and personality factors. The framework is ...

Suspension-type small rail personal rapid transit systems are widely concerned due to their high efficiency and reliability. The increasing demands for ride comfort have put forward higher requirements for vehicle stationarity. In the study, with a single-bogie vehicle as the research object, a dynamic equation and a simulation model are firstly established to calculate the attitude angle and lateral velocity of the vehicle. Then, with the small amplitude and fast attenuation of the attitude angle ...

Track curvature is a key parameter in many active control systems for rail vehicles. The real-time autonomous acquisition of track curvature is currently an engineering challenge in the field of rail transit. In this study, the cause of the geometric inertia effect (GIE) when the car body attitude is used to perceive the track curvature was explained by a theoretical derivation using the plane trajectory equation of the rail vehicle. Then, the bogie attitude rather than car body attitude was selected ...

Rudy F Luepke,

By gearing the employment process to hire productivity, light rail transit systems can build maintenance staffs that function more efficiently and cost-effectively despite their smaller sizes. To do this, standards must be set for the various maintenance disciplines; candidates must be tested for ability, attitude, and trainability; and cross-training must be provided.

... and control, has its limits particularly in "open" transit systems. The customer profiling perspective attempts to identify, based on demographics, which customers are more likely to fare evade. However this perspective has little use beyond profiling and is ethically questionable. The customer motivations perspective provides a richer understanding of how customers define fare evasion and what attitudes, social norms and circumstances motivates them to fare evade. Considering that between 20% and 40% of a city's residents admit to fare evading at some point, understanding these complex motivations can help improve revenue compliance at a time when most governments heavily subsidise their transit systems.
