Healthcare organizations have long been dependent on the vigilance of nurses to identify and intercept medication errors before they can adversely affect patients. New technologies have been implemented in an effort to reduce medication errors; however, few studies have evaluated the long-term effects of technology-based interventions in reducing medication errors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of barcode medication administration (BCMA) and the closed-loop medication system (CLMS) ...

Hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality, and represent a major health concern worldwide. Patients suffering from HAPI report a poor quality of life on several dimensions of health. Moreover, HAPI is reported to lengthen in-hospital stay in the acute setting, posing significant healthcare resource utilisations and costs. Given the clinical and economic burden of HAPI, recent best practice guidelines provide recommendations to reduce the prevalence ...

This study examined the types of experiences that repressors repress and one mechanism that they use for doing so. Subjects were first asked to indicate whether they could recall experiencing each of 48 different (positive and negative) emotions. The experiences recalled by repressors were significantly more positive than those recalled by nonrepressors. This indicates that repressors have relatively poor memory for negative emotional experiences but relatively good memory for positive emotional ...

A generalisation of the error diffusion algorithm is obtained by considering a filter for binarisation errors in the reconstruction plane as an error diffusion mask in the hologram plane. The method of projection onto convex sets is used to determine an optimum filter function. Simulated and experimental results are presented. The new method gives superior results over the original error diffusion algorithm.

Pediatric critical illness and injury, along with the experience of recovering from critical illness are among the most potentially traumatic experiences for children and their families. Additionally, children often come to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with pre-existing trauma that may sensitize them to PICU-related distress.
