PURPOSE: To compare a large-area amorphous silicon flat-panel detector with an asymmetric screen-film system for the depiction of simulated patterns of interstitial lung disease, nodules, and catheters, as well as for evaluation of dose reduction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ground-glass, linear, miliary, and reticular patterns; nodules; and catheters were superimposed over an anthropomorphic chest phantom. Hard copies were generated at different dose levels (speeds: 400, 800, and 1,600) with a flat-panel ...

The aim of this ex vivo study was to evaluate the infiltration capability and rate of microleakage of a low-viscous resin infiltrant combined with a flowable composite resin (RI/CR) when used with deproteinised and etched occlusal subsurface lesions (International Caries Detection and Assessment System code 2). This combined treatment procedure was compared with the exclusive use of flowable composite resin (CR) for fissure sealing. Twenty premolars and 20 molars revealing non-cavitated occlusal carious ...

Abstract Aim The tinder fungus Fomes fomentarius is a pivotal wood decomposer in European beech Fagus sylvatica forests. The fungus, however, has regionally declined due to centuries of logging. To unravel biogeographical drivers of arthropod communities associated with this fungus, we investigated how space, climate and habitat amount structure alpha and beta diversity of arthropod communities in fruitbodies of F. fomentarius . Location Temperate zone of Europe. Taxon Arthropods. Methods We reared ...

NOTCH signaling represents a promising therapeutic target in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). We compared the anti-neoplastic effects of the nuclear NOTCH2 inhibitor gliotoxin and the pan-NOTCH γ-secretase inhibitor RO4929097 in primary CLL cells with special emphasis on the individual roles of the different NOTCH receptors. Gliotoxin rapidly induced apoptosis in all CLL cases tested, whereas RO4929097 exerted a variable and delayed effect on CLL cell viability. Gliotoxin-induced apoptosis was ...

The Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor ibrutinib has substantially improved therapeutic options for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Although ibrutinib is not curative, it has a profound effect on CLL cells and may create new pharmacologically exploitable vulnerabilities. To identify such vulnerabilities, we developed a systematic approach that combines epigenome profiling (charting the gene-regulatory basis of cell state) with single-cell chemosensitivity profiling (quantifying cell-type-specific ...

Abstract The geographical distributions of species associated with European temperate broadleaf forests have been significantly influenced by glacial–interglacial cycles. During glacial periods, these species persisted in Mediterranean and extra-Mediterranean refugia and later, during interglacial periods, expanded northwards. The widespread saproxylic beetle Bolitophagus reticulatus depends closely on European temperate broadleaf forests. It usually develops in the tinder fungus Fomes fomentarius, ...

Abstract Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is characterized by clonal proliferation and accumulation of malignant B lymphocytes in the blood, bone marrow, spleen, and lymph nodes. This process is associated with constitutively activated B cell receptor (BCR) signaling, and interference with BCR signaling provides therapeutic benefit. Specifically, the Bruton's Tyrosine Kinase (BTK) inhibitor ibrutinib prevents BTK tyrosine phosphorylation and thereby interferes with pathways downstream of BCR. It ...
