The novel tricyclic alkaloid, gephyrotoxin ( GyTX ), found in the skin secretions of the frog Dendrobates histrionicus , potentiates and blocks the indirectly elicited muscle twitch in a concentration-dependent manner. The actions of the tricyclic alkaloid gephyrotoxin ( GyTX ) on the extrajunctional and junctional acetylcholine (ACh) sensitivity and desensitization were studied in the chronically denervated rat soleus muscle and cutaneous pectoris muscle of the frog. At low concentrations, GyTX greatly depressed the extrajunctional ACh sensitivity of the chronically denervated soleus muscles. The secondary amine, mecamylamine, interacts with the nicotinic receptor ionic channel complex as a noncompetitive antagonist. Mecamylamine (1-10 microM) blocked indirect muscle twitches with no discernible effect on the membrane potential, overshoot, or amplitude of the action potential. Abstract The effects of the indole alkaloid gramine on the behavior of the aphids Schizaphis graminum and Rhopalosiphum padi feeding on barley seedlings and on artificial diets were studied. On barley cv. F. Union, which lacks gramine, S. graminum ingested from phloem tissue for 30–80 min and non‐phloem for 20–40 min, over a period of 3 h. Indigofera truxillensis and I. suffruticosa, are used as a source of indigo dye and to treat several diseases. Azimuthal single-spin asymmetries of lepto-produced pions and charged kaons were measured on a transversely polarized hydrogen target. Evidence for a naive-T-odd, transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution function is deduced from non-vanishing Sivers effects for pi+, pi0, and K+, K-, as well as in the difference of the pi+ and pi- cross sections.

Exclusive electroproduction of pi+ mesons was studied by scattering 27.6 GeV positrons or electrons off a transversely polarized hydrogen target. Spin Density Matrix Elements (SDMEs) describing the angular distribution of exclusive ρ 0 electroproduction and decay are determined in the HERMES experiment with 27.6 GeV beam energy and unpolarized hydrogen and deuterium targets. Azimuthal asymmetries in exclusive electroproduction of a real photon from an unpolarized deuterium target are measured with respect to beam helicity and charge. They appear in the distribution of these photons in the azimuthal angle ϕ around the virtual-photon direction, relative to the lepton scattering plane. Numerous natural compounds have a potential for therapeutic applications, but may have to be chemically modified to alter toxic side effects. This paper discusses hadron energy reconstruction for the ATLAS barrel prototype combined calorimeter (consisting of a lead-liquid argon electromagnetic part and an iron-scintillator hadronic part) in the framework of the non-parametrical method. Magnetic properties of acicular (/spl sim/60 and /spl sim/200 nm) iron particles, obtained by reduction of alumina-coated goethite particles, are reported. X-ray diffraction and Mossbauer spectroscopy showed that the particles consist of an /spl alpha/-Fe core and a thin surface layer of maghemite. Many tools can be automatically derived from formal language definitions, such as compilers/interpreters, editors, analyzers, visualizers/animators, etc. Some examples of language-based tools generated automatically by the LISA system are described in the paper. In addition the specification of an algorithm animator and program visualizer, Alma, generated from an extended LISA input-grammar is discussed; LISA principles and code are reused in Alma implementation.
