Thirty-three commercial pisco samples made with Italia grapes in five different regions in Perú have been evaluated by gas chromatography-olfactometry (GC-O) and chemical quantitative analysis for the first time. The GC-O study has revealed that the Peruvian pisco made from this aromatic variety of grape (Italia) has an aroma profile composed of twenty-five odorants. Only one of them could not be identified (LRIDB-WAX 2313). Most of the odorants are fermentation-related, while guaiacol, β-damascenone, ...

Pisco is a common beverage, originating in some South American countries (such as Peru and Chile), which is obtained by distillation of wine made from different varieties of grapes. In this paper, thirty one commercial Peruvian pisco samples made with Negra Criolla, Mollar and Uvina grapes have been analyzed by gas chromatography–flame ionization (GC–FID) and mass spectrometry detection (GC–MS). A representative sample of each variety was also evaluated by gas chromatography–olfactometry (GC–O). A sensory ...

ABSTRACT Forty‐five samples of commercial pisco made with Albilla, Muscat and Torontel grapes in different areas of Peru have been evaluated by gas chromatography–olfactometry (GC‐O) and chemical quantitative analysis. The GC‐O study revealed that the Peruvian pisco made of these varieties of grapes has an aroma profile formed by nearly 30 odorants. The odorant 2,3‐pentanedione was detected only in the Albilla sample, producing significant differences. The chemical analysis of the volatiles of these ...

Saliva is a key factor that contributes to the high efficiency of wound healing in the oral mucosa. This is not only attributed to physical cues but also to the presence of specific peptides in the saliva, such as histatins. Histatin-1 is a 38 aa antimicrobial peptide, highly enriched in human saliva, which has been previously reported to promote the migration of oral keratinocytes and fibroblasts in vitro. However, the participation of histatin-1 in other crucial events required for wound healing, ...

The threat of depopulation in the rural areas making up what has become to be known as “empty Spain” is currently an extremely urgent national issue. Women are a fundamental pillar of rural sustainability, but the lack of decent living conditions has led to their mass exodus to the country’s cities. We analysed the factors undermining their health and well-being, thus leading to their dissatisfaction and their subsequent desire to abandon the countryside for a better life. A mixed methodology was ...

The current study investigated the role of women as represented in preschool textbooks in Morocco. To this end, we have carried out a content analysis on the images representing female figures from 5 publishers (N = 2789 images, N = 95 books). The expectation that images of women would appear more prominently in domestic and leisure settings than in professional ones was generally supported by the results. Although most of the professions represented are those traditionally associated with women, greater ...

Fluorescence spectra of anti-tumoral drug emodin loaded on nanostructured porous silicon have been recorded. The use of colloidal nanoparticles allowed embedding of the drug without previous porous silicon functionalization and leads to the observation of an enhancement of fluorescence of the drug. Mean pore size of porous silicon matrices was 60 nm, while silver nanoparticles mean diameter was 50 nm. Atmospheric and vacuum conditions at room temperature were used to infiltrate emodin-silver nanoparticles ...

American cutaneous leishmaniasis has shown an endemic character in areas of North-North-west Paraná State, which were populated in 40's, where residual forests persist with intense modifications. The infection has been found mainly in males, but was found also in females and children and in many individuals of a same family. 513 cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis notified to SUCAM by clinical diagnosis were investigated. Treatment was begun with Glucantime at State Health Centers or at SUCAM. Of 513 ...

Bluetongue (BT) is a climate change-related emerging infectious disease in Europe. Outbreaks of serotypes 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, and 16 are challenging Central and Western Europe since 1998. Measures to control or eradicate bluetongue virus (BTV) from Europe have been implemented, including movement restrictions and vaccination of domestic BTV-susceptible ruminants. However, these measures are difficult to apply in wild free-ranging hosts of the virus, like red deer (Cervus elaphus), which could play ...

The known advantages of drying food are long term preservation, weight reduction and, consequently, minimizing the transportation and storage costs. Drying technology can also spoil the conditions for microbial growth. It comprises three main parts: an absorber plate with 0.5 m2 surface area, a dryer chamber and an exhaust duct. The absorber plate ...

Abstract Importation of exotic bumblebees for greenhouse pollination may be restricted in México, thus making it necessary to evaluate the potential of native species as pollinators in enclosures. We studied the foraging activity and fruit production of tomato using one colony of Nannotrigona perilampoides (NP) and one colony of Bombus impatiens (BI) in greenhouses with ≈1000 plants. Mechanical vibration (MV) was included as a test treatment. The foraging activity was measured as the number of flowers ...
