The Pliocene‐Pleistocene history of CaCO 3 preservation in the central equatorial Pacific is reconstructed from a suite of deep‐sea cores and is compared to fluctuations in global ice volume inferred from δ 18 O records. The results are highlighted by: (1) a strong covariation between CaCO 3 preservation and ice volume over 10 4 to 10 6 year time scales; (2) a long‐term increase in ice volume and CaCO 3 preservation since 3.9 Ma demonstrated by a deepening of the lysocline and the carbonate critical ...

Sixteen deep‐sea cores from the central equatorial Pacific are used to reconstruct a continuous 800,000‐year (800‐kyr) record of bathymetric variations in carbonate preservation as measured by calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 ) content. The depth of the sedimentary lysocline has fluctuated markedly in conjunction with late Pleistocene climate cycles while the carbonate critical depth (CCrD), which is the water depth where the sediments contain 10% CaCO 3 , has remained relatively constant. As a result, the depth ...

Abstract Background: Bortezomib (VELCADE®, Vel) and lenalidomide (Revlimid®, Rev) are both highly effective agents in multiple myeloma (MM). Preclinical studies show Rev sensitizes MM cells to Vel and dexamethasone (Dex), suggesting combination therapy may enhance clinical activity. This phase 1 dose-escalation study aimed to determine MTD and activity of Rev-Vel +/− Dex combination therapy in patients (pts) with relapsed and/or refractory MM. Methods: Eight cohorts (≥3 pts each) were planned, with dosing ...

Preclinical trials indicate that CD34+ cells represent an effective angiogenic stem cell component. Early-phase clinical trials suggest that intramyocardial administration of autologous CD34+ cells may improve functional capacity and symptoms of angina. RENEW is a pivotal phase 3 trial designed to determine the efficacy of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF)–mobilized CD34+ stem cells for the treatment for patients with refractory angina and chronic myocardial ischemia.
