She is the author of A Problem Like Maria: Gender and Sexuality in the American Musical (2002). Her essay “`We'll Always Be Bosom Buddies': Female Duets and the Queering of Broadway Musical Theatre” (GLQ 12 [2006]) won the Association for Theatre in Higher Education's 2007 award for Best Essay in Theater Studies.
