In clinical settings, it is difficult to distinguish Alzheimer’s disease (AD) from vascular dementia (VD). The present study summarizes a clinical method to distinguish VD and AD at the early stage of the diseases. This study evaluated the possibility of differentiating 25 VD, 25 AD, and 25 healthy individuals (control, CN) by means of power spectral analysis and standardized low-resolution brain electromagnetic tomography (sLORETA) within alpha 1, alpha 2, beta 1, beta 2, delta, and theta frequency ...

Abstract Electrocatalysts play a vital role in electroreduction of N 2 to NH 3 (NRR); however, large‐scale industrial application of electrochemical NRR is still limited by low selectivity and poor activity, owing to the sluggish reaction kinetics. Herein, a high‐performance NRR catalyst consisting of atomically dispersed iron single site embedded in porous nitrogen‐doped carbon nanofibers with abundant carbon defects (D‐FeN/C) is reported. The D‐FeN/C catalyst achieves a remarkably high NH 3 yield ...

The partial substitution of chemical nitrogen (N) fertilizer with organic fertilizers is widely used to maintain soil fertility and enhance crop yield, although its effects on soil organic carbon (SOC) composition, mineralization and stability are not fully understood. For this study, a 12-year field experiment was conducted in a rubber plantation field of Hainan Island, China. Three fertilizer treatments included no fertilizer application as control (CK), chemical fertilizer application (NPK), and ...

Abstract Immunosuppression is common in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). In previous studies, the TIGIT/CD155 pathway was identified as an immune-checkpoint signaling pathway that contributes to the “exhaustion” state of infiltrating T cells. Here, we sought to explore the clinical significance of TIGIT/CD155 signaling in HNSCC and identify the therapeutic effect of the TIGIT/CD155 pathway in a transgenic mouse model. TIGIT was overexpressed on tumor-infiltrating CD8+ and CD4+ T cells ...

T-cell immunoglobulin mucin 3 (TIM3) is a negative immune checkpoint and plays a crucial part in tumor-induced immune suppression. However, the mechanism of TIM3 in regulating immunosuppression in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) was still not quite clear. We carried out the immunohistochemistry staining of HNSCC tissue microarrays. Through quantification of the histoscore, we performed the correlation analysis among the TIM3, Galectin-9, Foxp3, CD68 and CD163. The effects of TIM3 on regulatory ...

Security-constrained unit commitment (SCUC) has been extensively studied as a key decision-making tool to determine optimal power generation schedules in the operation of electricity market. With the development of emerging power grids, fruitful research results on SCUC have been obtained. Therefore, it is essential to review current work and propose future directions for SCUC to meet the needs of developing power systems. In this paper, the basic mathematical model of the standard SCUC is summarized, ...

Ethereum has been attracting lots of attacks, hence there is a pressing need to perform timely investigation and detect more attack instances. However, existing systems suffer from the scalability issue due to the following reasons. First, the tight coupling between malicious contract detection and blockchain data importing makes them infeasible to repeatedly detect different attacks. Second, the coarse-grained archive data makes them inefficient to replay transactions. Third, the separation between ...

Motivated by the current strong constraints on the spin-independent dark matter (DM)-nucleus scattering, we investigate the spin-dependent (SD) interactions of the light Majorana DM with the nucleus mediated by an axial-vector boson. Due to the small nucleus recoil energy, the ionization signals have now been used to probe the light dark matter particles in direct detection experiments. With the existing ionization data, we derive the exclusion limits on the SD DM-nucleus scattering through Migdal ...

Macropinocytosis is a form of endocytosis which provides an effective way for non-selective uptakes of extracellular proteins, liquids, and particles. The endocytic process is initiated by the activation of the growth factors signaling pathways. After activation of the biochemical signal, the cell starts internalizing extracellular solutes and nutrients into the irregular endocytic vesicles, known as macropinosomes that deliver them into the lysosomes for degradation. Macropinocytosis plays an important ...

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is an overwhelming greenhouse gas and agricultural soils, particularly acidic soils, are the main source of its release to the atmosphere. To ameliorate acidic soil condition, liming materials are added as an amendment. However, the impact of liming materials has not been well addressed in terms of exploring the effect of soil pH change on N2O emissions. In the present study, a soil with pH 5.35 was amended with liming materials (CaMg(CO3)2, CaCO3, Ca(OH)2 and CaO) to investigate ...

In Phys. Lett. B 753, 629-638 (2016) [arXiv:1507.08188] the BESIII collaboration published a cross section measurement of the process $e^+e^-\to \pi^+ \pi^-$ in the energy range between 600 and 900 MeV. In this erratum we report a corrected evaluation of the statistical errors in terms of a fully propagated covariance matrix. The correction also yields a reduced statistical uncertainty for the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, which now reads as $a_\ ...

Discriminative feature embedding is of essential importance in the field of large scale face recognition. In this paper, we propose a self residual attention-based convolutional neural network (SRANet) for discriminative face feature embedding, which aims to learn the long-range dependencies of face images by decreasing the information redundancy among channels and focusing on the most informative components of spatial feature maps. More specifically, the proposed attention module consists of the ...

Owing to their broad-spectrum antibacterial properties, multitarget effects, and low drug resistance, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have played critical roles in the clinical therapy of drug-resistant bacterial infections. However, the potential hazard of hemolysis following systemic administration has greatly limited their application. Here, we developed a novel AMP derivative, DP7-C, by modifying a formerly identified highly active AMP (DP7) with cholesterol to form an amphiphilic conjugate. The ...

Liquid drops impacting on a solid surface is a familiar phenomenon. On rainy days, it is quite important for leaves to drain off impacting raindrops. Water can bounce off or flow down a water-repellent leaf easily, but with difficulty on a hydrophilic leaf. Here, we show an interesting phenomenon in which impacting drops on the hydrophilic pitcher rim of Nepenthes alata can spread outward to prohibit water filling the pitcher tank. We mimic the peristome surface through a designed 3D printing and ...

Abstract A major challenge for traditional cancer therapy, including surgical resection, chemoradiotherapy, and immunotherapy, is how to induce tumor cell death and leverage the host immune system at the same time. Here, a myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) membrane‐coated iron oxide magnetic nanoparticle (MNP@MDSC) to overcome this conundrum for cancer therapy is developed. In this study, MNP@MDSC demonstrates its superior performance in immune evasion, active tumor‐targeting, magnetic resonance ...
