Signaling pathway alterations in COVID-19 of living humans as well as therapeutic targets of the host proteins are not clear. We analyzed 317 urine proteomes, including 86 COVID-19, 55 pneumonia and 176 healthy controls, and identified specific RNA virus detector protein DDX58/RIG-I only in COVID-19 samples. Comparison of the COVID-19 urinary proteomes with controls revealed major pathway alterations in immunity, metabolism and protein localization. Biomarkers that may stratify severe symptoms from ...

In recent years, two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors have attracted considerable attention from both academic and industrial communities. Recent research has begun transforming from constructing basic field-effect transistors (FETs) into designing functional circuits. However, device processing remains a bottleneck in circuit-level integration. In this work, a non-destructive doping strategy is proposed to modulate precisely the threshold voltage (VTH) of MoS2-FETs in a wafer scale. By inserting an ...

To clarify the influence of fiber type on the long-term performance of stone mastic asphalt (SMA), this paper used basalt fiber (BF) and lignin fiber (LF) to modify SMA-13 (SMA with aggregate nominal maximum particle size of 13.2 mm) asphalt mixture. The pavement performances (high-temperature performance, cracking resistance at low and medium temperature, and water stability) of the two kinds of fiber-reinforced SMA-13 were checked under different aging degrees (unaged, short-term aged and long-term ...

It is now more popular to use basalt fibers in the engineering programs to reinforce the crack resistance of asphalt mixtures. However, research concerning the impact of the basalt fiber diameter on the macro performance of AC-13 mixtures is very limited. Therefore, in this paper, basalt fibers with three diameters, including 7, 13 and 25 μm, were selected to research the influences of fiber diameter on the crack resistance of asphalt mixtures. Different types of crack tests, such as the low temperature ...

Abstract Background Fibrinogen may play an important role in the survival of trauma patients; however, its role in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and its correlation with disease prognosis remain poorly understood. The aims of this study were to determine the incidence of TBI-associated hypofibrinogenemia in patients with TBI and to evaluate the prognostic value of fibrinogen level with respect to mortality and clinical outcomes. Methods A total of 2570 consecutive TBI patients were retrospectively ...

Membrane distillation (MD) is a promising technology for treating saline industrial wastewater, but current hydrophobic MD membranes suffer significant wetting issues due to contaminants commonly present in wastewater. In this study, we report an effective method to fabricate a polyvinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP) electrospun nanofiber membrane with improved anti-wetting property against low-surface-tension substances. Without surface activation, the pristine electrospun nanofiber ...

Integrin is important in migration and metastasis of tumor cells. Changes of integrin expression and distribution will cause an alteration of cellular adhesion and migration behaviors. In this study, we investigated sulfatide regulation of the integrin αV subunit expression in hepatoma cells and observed that either exogenous or endogenous sulfatide elicited a robust upregulation of integrin αV subunit mRNA and protein expression in hepatoma cells. This regulatory effect occurred with a corresponding ...

In HCT116 colorectal cancer cells, HeLa cervical cancer cells and HuH-7 hepatoma cells, miR-223 is expressed at a low level. Through infection with lentivirus containing miR-223 precursor, miR-223 [corrected] was overexpressed in all these cells. Interestingly, the expression levels of FOXO1 mRNA and protein, and phosphorylation levels became significantly lower than those of their control. FOXO1 was down-regulated mainly in the cytoplasm, while the nuclear FOXO1 level became relatively high compared ...

To study the roles of microRNA-223 (miR-223) in regulation of cell growth, we established a miR-223 over-expression model in HeLa cells infected with miR-223 by Lentivirus pLL3.7 system. We observed in this model that miR-223 significantly suppressed the proliferation, growth rate, colony formation of HeLa cells in vitro, and in vivo tumorigenicity or tumor formation in nude mice. To investigate the mechanisms involved, we scanned and examined the potential and putative target molecules of miR-223 ...

In wireless sensor networks, time division multiple access (TDMA)-based MAC can potentially reduce the delay and provide real-time guarantees as well as save power by eliminating collisions. In this kind of MAC, a common energy-saving strategy is to allow the sensors to turn their radio off when not engaged. However, too much state transitions between the active and sleep modes would also waste energy. In order to save this part of energy and further improve the time performance, a multi-objective ...

Microstructure of the spray formed GCr15 steel was observed by optical microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, showing fine pearlite with the interspacing of 85 nm in as-sprayed samples and martensite of the width of 0.35 μm in oil-quenched samples. Two formulae correlating the hardness with the interspacing of the pearlite and the width of the martensite, respectively were derived on the basis of the Hall–Petch relation.
