A first and stable Ag-P superatom nanocluster [Ag15(N-triphos)4(Cl4)](NO3)3 (1) has been successfully synthesized and characterized. X-ray analysis shows that this Ag15 cluster has a hexacapped body-centered cubic (bcc) framework which is consolidated by four tripodal N-triphos ligands. The identity of 1 is confirmed by high resolution ESI-MS. Cluster 1 has an electronic and geometric shell closure structure with 8 free electrons, matching the stability idea of superatom theory for a nanocluster. DFT ...

2-Substituted-1,4,5,6-tetrahydrocyclopenta[b]pyrrole, a key structural moiety exiting in many bioactive molecules, has been shown to have excellent selective activity on COX-2. In the present study, the anti-inflammatory activity and the underlying molecular mechanism of 2-substituted-1,4,5,6-tetrahydrocyclopenta[b]pyrrole on skin inflammation were assessed by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced skin inflammation in mice. Most of the compounds showed anti-inflammatory activity on TPA- ...

The surface area and structure of adsorbents are crucially important to its adsorption capacity. Herein, we focused on the correlation between the structures of 2D/3D materials and its adsorption properties by taking three kinds of cobalt–aluminum layered double hydroxide (CoAl-LDH) as adsorbents, including a 3D hierarchical flower-like hollow/solid sphere (FH/FS-CoAl) and 2D plate (P-CoAl). As expected, FH-CoAl showed the highest adsorption capacity (∼2189.23 mg/g) for methyl orange (MO), benefiting ...

The sorption of copper ions onto natural bamboo sawdust with cellulose–lignin polymeric structure strongly depends on pH. The adsorption capacity for copper ions increases as increasing pH and copper loadings. The fitting of copper pH boundary curve by NEM surface complexation models shows that: three-sites model including the ion exchange reaction of permanent charge fits better than two-sites model. The incorporation of the hydrated ion reaction gives better fitting results. XAFS study shows that: ...

In the quest for potent α-glucosidase inhibitors to combat diabetes, a series of novel thiosemicarbazide-based β-carboline derivatives (CTL1∼36) were synthesized and evaluated. CTL1∼36 exhibited remarkable inhibitory effects against α-glucosidase, with IC50 values ranging from 2.81 to 12.40 μM, significantly surpassing the positive control acarbose (IC50 = 564.28 μM). Notably, CTL26 demonstrated the most potent inhibition (IC50 = 2.81 μM) and was characterized as a non-competitive inhibitor. Through a ...

All synthesized compounds (MY1–41) presented potential PTP1B inhibitory activities, with half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values ranging from 0.41 ± 0.05 to 4.68 ± 0.61 μM, compared with that of the positive control lithocholic acid (IC50 = 9.62 ± 0.14 μM). The most potent compound, MY17 ( ...

However, the relationship between carnosic acid (CA) and changes in the gut microbiota of high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice has not been fully investigated. C57BL/6 mice were fed a normal diet, an HFD, or an HFD containing 0.1% or 0.2% CA for 10 weeks. CA exhibited promising antiobesity effects and caused marked alterations in the gut microbiota of HFD-induced ...

Ground movements caused by the construction of tunnels and excavation are inevitable. Estimation of such movements is a very important for risk management in tunnel design. This paper presents a case study of ground settlements induced by twin shield tunnelling in Copenhagen using analytical and numerical methods and their predictions. The predictions are compared with the monitored settlements. The comparison shows that the predictions are sufficiently conservative.

Abstract Superhydrophobic surfaces with the “lotus effect” have wide applications in daily life and industry, such as self‐cleaning, anti‐freezing, and anti‐corrosion. However, it is difficult to reliably predict whether a designed superhydrophobic surface has the “lotus effect” by traditional theoretical models due to complex surface topographies. Here, a reliable machine learning (ML) model to accurately predict the “lotus effect” of solid surfaces by designing a set of descriptors about nano‐scale ...

Conventional C–H alkenylation with alkynes via low-valent transition-metal catalysis occurs at the C6 or C4 position of 2-pyridone with electron-deficient C–H bonds. A bifunctional ligand-bonded Ni–Al bimetallic catalyst resulted in a reversed selectivity, providing a series of C3-alkenylated 2-pyridones in up to 99% yields.

An electrochemical asymmetric coupling of secondary acyclic amines with ketones via a Shono-type oxidation has been described, affording the corresponding amino acid derivatives with good to excellent diastereoselectivity and enantioselectivity. The addition of an N-oxyl radical as a redox mediator could selectively oxidize the substrate rather than the product, although their oxidation potential difference is subtle (about 13 mV). This electrochemical transformation proceeds in the absence of stoichiometric ...

Multi jet fusion (MJF) is an emerging powder three-dimensional (3D) printing technology with an ultrafast printing speed, in which polyamide 12 (PA12) is the main material currently utilised. Although structurally sophisticated 3D components have been printed by MJF, there are limitations due to the high cost of printing materials and inferior performance of the printed parts. Here, PA12/glass beads (PA12/GBs) composites with improved performance were manufactured via the MJF technique. Incorporating ...
