愛媛県西部八幡浜大島の大島変成岩体は,その地体構造上の意義・帰属が長年に渡り検討されてきた.本論ではジルコンおよびモナザイトのU(-Th)-Pb精密年代測定により大島変成岩体および関連岩石の年代学的特徴を明らかにした.大島変成岩体は約2000-140 Maの砕屑性ジルコン年代で特徴づけられ,約120 Maの主要高温変成作用,約110 Maのハンレイ岩・閃緑岩・トーナル岩の貫入,約100 Maのシュードタキライト脈形成を伴う脆性変形を経験したことが明らかになった.一方,大島変成岩体の南部に位置する地大島北端に分布する花崗岩質マイロナイトは約170 Maの珪長質火成活動に由来し,大島変成岩体とは全く異なる起源をもつことが明らかになった.大島変成岩体の年代学的特徴は,肥後変成岩体と極めて類似するとともに関東山地や阿武隈・日立地域の白亜紀変成・火成岩体とも対比可能であり,一連の大規模火成・変成コンプレックスが改めて認識された.

シュードタキライトは急激な断層運動によって断層面の岩石が摩擦熱のために溶融し急冷固結した脈状のガラス質岩石である. 岩石を溶かすほどの高温を生じる断層運動は地震を起こす急激な破壊によって起こったものと見なされ, その意味でシュードタキライトは地震の化石と呼ばれている(高木, 1991; 嶋本・長濱, 1991). 日本列島は大断層が多く, 古い時代から地震が多発していたと考えられるが, シュードタキライトの産出例は意外に少なく, 明瞭な注入脈状のものは北海道日高帯で報告されている(Toyoshima, 1990)に過ぎない. ここに示したものは大島変成岩(高木, 1991; 武田ほか, 1993)と呼ばれる火成岩源の高度片麻岩中に発達する幅3～4mの脆性断層帯に伴うもので, この種の断層は約200mの距離をおいて岩体中に2帯(A, B)確認されている. シュードタキライトは主として主要断層面に平行な面(Y)とリーデル勇断面(R1)に挟まれる平行脈と, これらの面に高角な割れ目(T)に沿って注入した非平行脈としてみられ, 主要断層面から派生したスラスト勇断面(P)には少ない. 脈の最大厚さは3～ ...
