Background and Objectives: Little is known about the role of Chlamydia trachomatis in the etiology of tubal factor infertility and ectopic pregnancy in Egypt. Goal of this Study: To assess the association between past chlamydial infection, tubal factor infertility, and ectopic pregnancy in an Egyptian population. Study Design: This report consists of two concurrent case-control studies. First, 51 patients with tubal factor infertility were compared with 48 healthy subjects who did not have tubal ...

In a cross-sectional study of children <60 months old from Fayoum, Egypt, presenting with diarrhea, 46% (162/356) had detectable enteric pathogens. Bacterial pathogens were identified in 25% (89/356), whereas rotavirus and Cryptosporidium were detected in 21% (54/253) and 15% (39/253), respectively. Cryptosporidium is an important pathogen in this region.

The smart grid is seen as a power system with real-time communication and control capabilities between the consumer and the utility. This modern platform facilitates the optimization in energy usage based on several factors including environmental, price preferences, and system technical issues. In this paper, a real-time energy management system (EMS) for microgrids or nanogrids was developed. The developed system involves an online optimization scheme to adapt its parameters based on previous, ...

Recently, with the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources into microgrid (μGs) power electronics, distributed energy systems have gained popularity. However, low inertia reduces system frequency stability and anti-disturbance capabilities, exposing power quality to intermittency and uncertainty in photovoltaics or wind turbines. To ensure system stability, the virtual inertia control (VIC) is presented. This paper proposes two solutions to overcome the low inertia problem and the surplus ...

Abstract Introduction Early, accurate diagnosis is fundamental in the management of patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). The aim of this qualitative review was to compare various criteria of diagnosing VAP in the intensive care unit (ICU) with a special emphasis on the value of clinical diagnosis, microbiological culture techniques, and biomarkers of host response. Methods A MEDLINE search was performed using the keyword 'ventilator associated pneumonia' AND 'diagnosis'. Our search was ...

Trauma-related infections remain a concerning and potentially avoidable complication of conflict-related injuries. During the Israeli conflict in South Lebanon, more than four million sub-munitions were dropped over South Lebanese soil. In this study, we will explore the different types of infection caused by sub-munitions and penetrating agents. This prospective study took place from 2006 to 2012 at the Lebanese University within the Faculty of Medical Sciences' departments. This study sample consisted ...

In this paper, a relevant automated electromagnetic (EM) optimization method and a novel, fast, and accurate artificial neural network are proposed for the efficient CAD modeling of microwave circuits. We lay the groundwork for our investigation of radial wavelet neural networks WNNs trained by BFGS (Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno) and LBFGS (limited memory BFGS) algorithms and their application to determine the scattering parameters of the circuit under study. Wavelet theory may be exploited in ...

The QOL of 20 consecutive patients 1 year after surgery was compared (using the ESI-55 scale) with that of 20 matched patients who underwent the same presurgical evaluation, but no surgery. Overall QOL improved in both groups, but was greater in the surgery group (85% seizure free as compared to 0% in nonsurgery group). Significant ...
