We have presented a novel design of a photonic crystal slab (PCS) nanocavity, in which the electric field of the cavity mode is strongly localized in free space. The feature of the cavity is a linear air slot introduced to the center of the mode-gap confined PCS cavity. Large single crystals of the novel vanadate Co3V2O8 are grown at a slow cooling rate using the flux method. X-ray diffraction and chemical analyses show that the grown crystals have high quality. Magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity measurements confirm that Co3V2O8 exhibits unusual magnetic behaviors, where five magnetic phase transitions occur below 15 K along the magnetic easy a-axis.

テラヘルツ(THz)波は光と電波の両方の特性を併せ持つ電磁波であるため,不透明な塗膜を透過した金属表面からの反射光が検出可能である.本研究では,THz波による,目視できない塗膜下金属表面の非破壊腐食検査へ向けたイメージング測定技術の確立に取り組んだ.表面にスクラッチ痕を形成し,5%塩化ナトリウム水溶液噴霧によって腐食させた溶融亜鉛めっき鋼板を試験片として用いた.THz周波数固定イメージング測定には,GaP結晶を用いた差周波混合による周波数可変単色THz光源を用いた.2.0 THzおよび2.8 THz吸光度の大きな領域がスクラッチ痕周辺に観測された.蛍光X線(XRF)マッピング像と比較すると塗膜下金属表面に形成された腐食成分は塩化亜鉛あるいは塩基性塩化亜鉛に推定された.溶融亜鉛めっき鋼板に対するTHz分光イメージング測定およびµXRFマッピング測定より,THz波が塗膜下金属表面の非破壊腐食状態検査を行う手法として有用であることを示した.

ABSTRACT: Cerebrovascular accidents due to Moyamoya disease, a disorder characterized by arterial stenosis at the base of the brain accompanied by typical net-like collateral vessels, occurred in two young Japanese women with Graves' disease when they were in thyrotoxicosis. In one patient, a second attack of cerebral infarction occurred with the recurrence of thyrotoxicosis. Association of Moyamoya disease and Graves' thyrotoxicosis is rare and the pathegenetic relationship is discussed.

Magnetic properties of SrCo2V 2O8 single crystal are investigated by means of ac magnetic susceptibility, dc magnetization and heat capacity measurements. The results show that SrCo2V 2O8 possesses two canted antiferromagnetic transitions at ∼5 and ∼3 K, which is different from isostructural BaCo2V 2O8 with only one antiferromagnetic transition at ∼5 K. We suggest that such different magnetic properties are mainly due to their different structural symmetry.

ゴルフ場で使用される肥料について1993年6月から1994年5月末までの1年間, 4日間隔8日間隔で採水し, 肥料成分の流出特性を把握し, その負荷量を算出した. 結果は次の通りであった. 全窒素は施肥後2~3日で無施肥時に比し高濃度に検出され始め, 施肥量の多い5月に最高濃度を示した. 全リンも同様, 施肥後1~2日で無施肥時に比し検出濃度の上昇がみられ, 春期に高濃度を記録した. 7種類の肥料が使用され, 散布量は年間, 約28トンであった. グリーンに最も多量の肥料が散布された. ゴルフ場の流出負荷量は森林の負荷量に比し, 全窒素は4倍, 全リン43倍と, 特に全リンの負荷量が多かった. ゴルフ場の芝草管理と水稲栽培における施肥量を比較すると前者は窒素11.2kg/10a, リン14.2kg/10a, カリウム10.0kg/10aで, 後者は窒素8~15kg/10a, リン10~20kg/10a, カリウム10~20kg/10aであるので, 肥料の使用量については類似していた. 以上のことから, 全国のゴルフ場は砂主体で, しかも排水第一に造成されており, かつ芝草管理も類似していることから, ...

沖永良部島は日本の南西諸島における典型的な農業地域の一つである. 同島の北東半分を占める和泊町においては, 花き栽培などの集約的農業のために土地面積当たりの農薬消費量が日本全国の平均の3倍以上に達している. 同島において, 33地点の115の地下水サンプルの中の混入農薬(フェニトロチオン, ダイアジノン, プロチオホス, キャプタン)を分析した. 8地点の15サンプルからこれら4種の農薬のうちいずれかが検出された. この結果は, 日本においてもゴルフ場ばかりでなく集約的な農業のために施用される農業によって地下水が汚染される場合があることを示している. キャプタンは, 分析した農薬の中でも最も消費量が多いものであったが, 2サンプルからのみ検出された. これら2サンプルは, 集約的な花き栽培がより盛んな同町北東部からのものであった. フェニトロチオンとダイアジノンは年間を通じて様々な地点から検出された. さらに, 同町におけるこれら2種の農薬の消費量は異なる季節変動を示すにもかかわらず, 最も汚染されていた地点の一つについて, これら2種の農薬の検出濃度の比は毎回ほぼ一定であった. このことから, ...
