The direct roles of miR-139-3p on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell growth and metastasis remain poorly understood. We attempted to demonstrate the regulatory role of miR-139-3p in HCC progression and its underlying mechanisms. Here we showed that miR-139-3p expression was significantly reduced in the HCC tissues compared to paratumor tissues. Exogenous overexpression of miR-139-3p inhibited the migration and invasion of HCC cells, whereas downregulation of miR-139-3p was able to induce HCC HepG2 ...

Abstract Background Misclassifications of hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (HAE) as intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) may lead to inappropriate treatment strategies. The aim of this study was to explore the differential diagnosis with conventional ultrasound and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS). Methods Sixty HAE lesions with 60 propensity score-matched ICC lesions were retrospectively collected. The 120 lesions were randomly divided into a training set ( n = 80) and a testing set ( n = 40). In the training ...

Abstract: Tissue culture, SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and spectra analysis were used for studying the aggregation mechanism of protoplasts from Bryopsis hypnoides Lamouroux and the discrepancy between the protoplast-regenerated plants and the wild type. The aggregation of protoplasts from B. hypnoides was observed in natural seawater and artificial seawater with different pH values, and the location and mechanism of the materials causing the aggregation were also studied. Results ...

Biannually laminated freshwater carbonate deposits (tufas and travertines) are potential sources of high-resolution terrestrial paleoclimate data. In order to understand the processes of carbonate precipitation, the formation of the biannual laminae in endogenic (thermogene) travertine, and the characteristics of the climate information recorded in them, the seasonal variations of hydrochemistry and carbonate precipitation rates in a travertine-depositing canal at Baishuitai, Yunnan, SW China were ...

Ultrasonography is the most widely used technique to diagnose echinococcosis; however, challenges in using this technique and the demand on medical resources, especially in low-income or remote areas, can delay diagnosis. We aimed to develop a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) model based on ultrasonography to identify echinococcosis and its types, especially alveolar echinococcosis. This retrospective, large-scale, multicentre study used ultrasound images from patients assessed at 84 hospitals ...

B-phycoerythrin (BPE) and R-phycocyanin (RPC) were purified from Porphyridium cruentum by Sephadex G-200 chromatography, then the BPE was attached covalently to the RPC by reacting their amino groups to form the artificially covalent BPE–RPC conjugate in which the excitation energy can transfer from the BPE to the RPC with low efficiency. Meanwhile, the intact phycobilisome (PBS) consisting of BPE, RPC, APC and LCM was isolated and purified from Porphyridium cruentum, and the purified PBS was found ...

Abstract The low energy efficiency and limited cycling life of rechargeable Zn–air batteries (ZABs) arising from the sluggish oxygen reduction/evolution reactions (ORR/OERs) severely hinder their commercial deployment. Herein, a zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF)‐derived strategy associated with subsequent thermal fixing treatment is proposed to fabricate dual‐atom CoFe─N─C nanorods (Co 1 Fe 1 ─N─C NRs) containing atomically dispersed bimetallic Co/Fe sites, which can promote the energy efficiency ...

Abstract Whilte herbal medicines are widely used for health promotion and therapy for chronic conditions, inappropriate use of them may cause adverse effects like liver injury, and accurately evaluating their hepatotoxicity is of great significance for public health. Herein, an activatable probe QY‐N for diagnosing herbal‐medicine‐induced liver injury by detecting hepatic NO with NIR‐II fluorescence and multispectral optoacoustic tomography (MSOT) imaging is demonstrated. The probe includes a bismethoxyphenyl‐ ...

Abstract Inflammatory diseases are sometimes devastating and notoriously difficult to treat. Precisely modulating inflammatory signaling pathways is a promising approach for treating inflammatory diseases. Herein, a multifunctional nanosystem is developed for active targeting, activatable imaging and on‐demand therapy against inflammatory diseases through modulating inflammatory pathways. A chromophore‐drug dyad (QBS‐FIS) is synthesized by linking a chromophore and a Nrf2 (nuclear factor E2‐related ...

Separating watershed evapotranspiration into its evaporation and transpiration components is important for calculating the carbon that is assimilated by terrestrial vegetation in carbon cycle studies. The key step in this separation is to quantify the evaporation component. The deuterium excess (d-excess) in meteoric water has been shown to be an important indicator of both the original source of the water vapor and the humidity at the vapor source area. It has also shown promise for use in investigating ...

In the study of global climate change, a major focus of research into the carbon cycle is to determine the fate of missing carbon sinks. Carbonate weathering-related carbon sinks as a result of water‑carbonate-CO2-aquatic phototroph interactions may make a major contribution. Establishing optimal land uses, which determine soil CO2 concentrations and water supplies for carbonate dissolution, may be a feasible and effective way to increase the sink potential. Elucidating both the hydrological and ...

High-resolution hydrochemical data from five spring-fed ponds are presented to demonstrate the effect of different land uses and aquatic biological processes on the carbon cycle at a karst-analog test site. The results show that hydrochemical parameters including pH and the concentrations of HCO3−, Ca2 +, NO3−, partial pressures of CO2 (pCO2) and dissolved O2 (DO) as well as carbon isotopic compositions (δ13C) of HCO3– in the pond water all displayed distinct diurnal variations, while those of the spring ...
