Selenium levels in human milk in the winter period ranged from 5.3 μg/l to 23.8 μg/l, the mean value being 11.0 μg/l. The nursing women were divided into several groups according to the results of a questionnaire, i.e. according to their social status (refugees or otherwise), number of deliveries, post partum days, the weight they had gained during pregnancy, their age and smoking habits. The mean levels of selenium for each group are presented. Selenium was determined by hydride generation atomic ...

We report a case of a 21-year-old man with recurrent tonsillitis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. For a period of 5 months, the patient had tonsillitis seven times and was treated with several oral or parenteral antibiotics. On one of these occasions, tonsillitis was complicated with a peritonsillar abscess that was treated by incision. According to relevant bibliographic data, this is the first case of Mycobacterium tuberculosis confirmed by direct molecular microbiology methods from the tonsillar ...

SUMMARY Objective of field experiments carried out in maize-soybean-winter wheat crop rotation was evaluation of different soybean genotypes on two management systems, intensive and extensive. Intensive management system consisted of ploughing at 30-32 cm, fertilization with 80 kg N and 130 P 2 O 5 and K 2 O kg/ha, crop protection with oksasulfuron and if it was necessary with propakvizafop and bentazon. Extensive management system consisted of ploughing at 20-22 cm, fertilization with 40 kg N and ...

Although intermittent rivers are present in all climate regions, their biodiversity and ecosystem functions were largely overlooked in the past. Recently, considerable effort has been made to improve our understanding of these, however, many data gaps still remain. We conducted a study to improve knowledge of the community patterns and processes in intermittent rivers in the Dinaric Western Balkan ecoregion. We studied spatial and temporal variation of aquatic insect community composition and structure ...

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a very common chronic non-communicable disease. Phosphate and calcium metabolism disorders are one of the most common features of CKD. Sevelamer carbonate is the most widely used non-calcium phosphate binder. Gastrointestinal (GI) injury associated with sevelamer use is a documented adverse effect but is underrecognized as a cause of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with CKD. We report a case of a 74-year-old woman taking low-dose sevelamer with serious gastrointestinal ...

Hemangioma of the small intestine is a rare vascular malformation which mostly presents as occult gastrointestinal bleeding and iron-deficiency anemia. Patients are often asymptomatic except of fatigue due to anemia. Hemangiomas can arise anywhere in the luminal gastrointestinal tract, with jejunum as the most commonly involved site. They are very hard to recognize mostly due to their localization. Video capsule endoscopy and balloon-assisted enteroscopy have very much improved preoperative diagnostics ...

A number of wireless IP video surveillance solutions is growing with every day, enabling solutions for installations where traditional systems -both analog and digital -are not feasible or practical. Emersion of broadband wireless technologies provided solution for those critical surveillance applications bridging the problems of inadequate network infrastructure. In this paper network aspects of megapixel IP surveillance over broadband wireless network infrastructure are discussed and WiMAX technology ...

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) usually affect women in their fertile years and, therefore, have implications for their fertility and pregnancy. The presence of IBD during pregnancy has been shown to adversely affect pregnancy outcomes, and increased rates of preterm delivery and of spontaneous abortion have been reported. An onset of acute severe colitis in pregnancy has rarely been seen. We present the case of a 42-year-old woman who conceived after 9 attempts of in vitro fertilization and whose ...
