Resumo

" ... [F]irst written for the information and private use of a gentleman in England without any intention of its being ever exposed to the public view, and that it is now published is not owing to any value the author puts upon it ... but to the desires of some, who imagine that the medical part may be of use to those who may become settlers in our new colonies of East and West-Florida, where the climate and soil much resemble South-Carolina ... ." Cf. "Advertisement," p. [3] The account of the Indian tribes in South Carolina and vicinity appears to be based in part on M. De la Condamine's "Voyage to South-America" [sic]. Cf. p. 73.
