Satirical lithographic ports. of 40 contemporary figures, mostly Philadelphians, each showing the subject's face on the body of a bird or animal, after drawings by H.L. Stephens. The front. lithograph which serves as added t.p. in the chromolithographed ed. is a self-port. of Stephens. In this ed., the lithographs are chiefly signed: "Lith. of L. Rosenthal, Phila." or "by Rosenthal." Another ed. contains chromolithographed ill., chiefly signed "Lith. in color by Rosenthal, Phila." or "Lith. in color by Rosenthal and Kramer." Each port. except front. accompanied by a humorous sketch in prose or verse, by W.A. Stephens (12), C.W. Webber (1), Cornelius Matthews (1), Richard Vaux (6), C.F. Erichson (3), Isaac W. Moore (1), Thos. M'Keon (4), Geo. W. Dewey (1) and anonymous contributors. Six contributions ascribed to "the editor" in table of contents are signed "C."; identified as John Cassin in article in The auk, n.s., v. 38 (1921), p. 286-287. The final plate is a wood engraving, signed: "H.L. Stephens." Book.
