"Republished from the Montreal Herald." Errata at end of text. "Ellice, Edward, the elder (1781-1863) ... went to Canada in 1803 where he engaged in the fur trade ... In 1805 he became connected with the competing Canadian fur companies, the North-west Company and the X.Y. Company.
