Resumo

Issued in seven numbered parts. The first six numbers and the Glossary (distributed gratis with the fifth number) were printed at New Harmony, Indiana, 1830-1834. Numbers V (Aug. 1832) and VI (Apr. 1834) were "Printed at the M Press." The Glossary ([4], 25, [1] p.) was "Printed by Richard Beck & James Bennett." The seventh number was published in 1838(?) at Philadelphia by Lucy Say with the assistance of T.A. Conrad. Two impressions of the seventh number noted, the first misnumbered VIII. The first impression comprises [20] pages, of which 3 are blank; the second, [18] pages, of which 4 are blank. See Byrd & Peckham, entry 760, and Banta, R.E. "The American conchology: a venture in backwoods book printing" in The Colophon, n.s. v. 3, no. 1 (1938): 24-40. The hand-colored plates were engraved by Cornelius Tiebout, Lyman Lyon, and James Walker, after illustrations by Lucy Say and Charles Alexandre Lesueur. Lucy Say evidently engraved plates 62, 64, 65, and 67 for the seventh number herself. See Stroud, P.T. Thomas Say, New World naturalist, 1992, p. 266. Includes bibliographical references. Book.
