The Times Diary French Lesson Harmony on integration and taxes means disharmony ahead Trimble for Upper Bann A politician of rare courage and cool determination One Small Toothbrush In the new era of flying, it ain't heavy, it's my luggage From Mr Roland White Sir, I see that British Airways is to ban passengers who are rude to airport check-in staff (report, May 26). Unfortunately, there is no mention of Ba taking steps that would remove the causes of this " rage"- missing luggage, long-delayed flights, lack of information, etc. If they want to avoid angry confrontations at check-in they should adopt the simple expedient of opening more desks. At the moment, if the queue is long it seems to be the passengers' fault if they don't reach the check-in desk in time. Yours faithfully, Roland White, 18 Summerley Lane, Felpham, Bognor Regis Po22 7hp. roland@zebeddee. globalnet. co. uk May 26.- From Dr Christopher T. Watts Sir, If BA's criterion for closing a flight is to be whether a passenger has a boarding card or not then will it be doing something about the disgraceful time needed to check in for a flight? On some flights to European destinations passengers spend longer in the check-in queue than in the air. Yours faithfully, C. T.
