The hospital's medical and dental committee, which represents the hospital's 200 consultants, condemned managers at a meeting on Tuesday night for failing to consult them. However it did not demand a withdrawal. It also declined to vote on "opting out". Two thirds of 49 consultants taking part in a ballot voted against a decision taken by Dr Hugh Saxton, chairman of the Kenneth Clarke, Secretary of State for Health, stating that it would be "premature" for Guy's to consider self-government. Guy's was the only one of the six resource management sites, which are developing detailed costing systems, that did not sign the letter.
