The Times pp 331 c,d 1836 Jan 8. Forster and Stacey to Buxton, about their visit to Stephen and his continued determination to publish the letters in if they were not with-drawn from the Society's minutes. He had agreed to await the conclusions of the next meeting when the report of their interview with him should be presented. They state their determination to recommend to the committee that the transcribed letters should be erased, in order to prevent Buxton being brought before the public as a participant in the dispute and in view of the past services rendered to the cause by Stephen. This was to be done in such a way that no reflection on Buxton's character would be made and no suspicion aroused that the Society considered the letters had been confidential. Finally they ask his opinion on the matter before they reported to the committee. (Copy.)
