Patriot. pp 163 e-h 1837 Nov 17. Josiah Forster to Buxton, about his inability to explain how the letter that Buxton had given him permission to read to the delegates at the meeting at Exeter Hall had reached the editor of the He reports on the resolutions passed at that meeting, the memorial being presented to Lord Melbourne, their objection to the reappointment of the Apprenticeship Committee and the desire for immediate revocation of the apprentice- ship system. He records the calling of another meeting in Exeter Hall, the opening of a subscription fund and the intention to form another society to act for them on this matter. Finally he outlines a six point scheme of work for the anti-slavery movement to undertake in the next six months: to complete, present and publish their memorial, to inquire into the treatment of the non-praedial apprentices, to consider the necessary steps for ensuring the freedom of the negro after apprenticeship, and the treatment of the apprentices' children in the Cape of Good Hope, to inquire into the state of Mauritius and into the fate of Africans released from slavers in Grenada and in Sierra Leone.
