pp 458 l,m 1839 Dec. Buxton to [Hannah Buxton], about his day's journey in heavy rain, the contribution Anna was making to the comfort and pleasure of their travel and the admiration of the guides for her behaviour during their several adventures. He describes his enjoyment of Fowell's company and his discovery that he had a nice sense of humour. He complains, however, that Fowell refused to speak French and Anna when called upon to help, got involved in long conversations instead of telling him what had been said to him. He informs her that they would continue their journey via Genoa and Florence and should be with her at the Isole Brittaniche a little before she was expecting them to arrive. (Copy.)
