p 69 1840 Dec 7. Buxton to Priscilla Johnston, about her pique that he had not acknowledged her letter, explaining that it was pressure of work not lack of appreciation which caused this. He writes that the letter had done him good and that Hankinson's similar reminder that all good causes had to weather storms had brought to mind the storms they had weathered in 1825 and 1826 when his anti-slavery work was just beginning. He reports the rumour about East Indian sugar probably reaching such a rate of production as to crush slavery and the slave trade. He asks if she could produce a brief lucid exposition of their plan for Africa for use in his proposed pamphlet. (Copy.)
