Buxton to Captain Bird Allen, about his having brought the 'Soudan' safely to Deptford, his intended departure for Africa in about ten days and his own regrettable state of health which prevented him from seeing the vessel before they left. He writes that he had ordered a mixture of porter and ale to be packed for him in bottles stored in a cask to take to Africa on the advice of his old friend Macaulay. (Copy.)
