Memoir p 113 1842 June 23. Buxton to Lord John Russell, thanking him for publicly acknowledging his part in the preparation of the Niger Expedition and bearing the blame with them. He adds that the meeting had put heart in to the members of the Society and he thought it would convince the country that their attempt to civilize Africa had not been such a wild scheme as it suspected.
